GoDaddy Auctioning Some NameFind Inventory

In a tweet this afternoon, GoDaddy announced that it will be auctioning some short domain names from its NameFind portfolio. These domain names will be auctioned in 7 day auctions without reserve prices on GoDaddy Auctions. These are private seller domain names rather than expiry domain names:

Current Status of my LTO Sales

3

Last week, I announced that I sold my first domain name via Afternic’s Lease to Own option. The domain name was sold for $4,999, which will hopefully be paid over 12 months. Notably, I turned off LTO for domain names priced below $2,000, so when I received the email I knew it wasn’t going to be a table minimum LTO.

Yesterday afternoon, I checked to see if anything had been done with the domain name I sold. To my surprise, the buyer already launched a website on the domain name. It’s not a simple WordPress theme or a template that was uploaded and potentially forgotten about. I think this bodes well for the completion of this payment plan.

Dropping my One Premium Fee .XYZ

I currently own fewer than 30 .XYZ domain names. I acquired most of them via Afternic, Dan, or in auctions on Namecheap. With the exception of Embrace.xyz, I am pretty sure I paid less than $500/each for the domain names I bought.

One important aspect to my acquisition strategy was to acquire domain names that did not have a premium renewal fee. Not only do I not want to pay hundreds of dollars a year (or more) to renew a domain name, I did not want to have to explain the premium renewal fee to prospective buyers. I’ve always felt this was a deterrent.

HugeDomains Expiry Stream on DropCatch

I was looking through the names available to bid on at DropCatch.com when something caught my attention. In addition to seeing the “Dropped” and “Private Seller” types of auctions, there are now “Pre-Release” auctions as well.

A quick investigation showed me the source of these domain names. It would appear that HugeDomains is letting some of its inventory expire, and those expiry domain names are coming up for auction on DropCatch. Both HugeDomains and DropCatch have the same parent company – TurnCommerce.

Identity Digital Hiring Director of Biz Dev

Identity Digital (formerly Donuts) is looking to hire a Business Development Director, according to a job listing posted on LinkedIn. While domain industry knowledge is not listed as a requirement, someone with industry experience would likely make a good candidate for this position. I believe Identity Digital operates the largest portfolio of domain name extensions.

Here’s the job summary for this position:

Afternic Adds Traffic and Lead Stats

0

Afternic has added two columns to its dashboard that will be of interest to domain investors who use the platform to sell domain names. Users can now see the number of visits to the domain name in the trailing 30 days and the number of leads the domain name generated in that time period.

To access (or remove) this new data provided by Afternic, users can select and add columns for Views and Leads on their dashboard. A generic screenshot of this shared by GoDaddy is posted above.
