Public Interest Registry (PIR) is a non-profit organization that is responsible for the management of the .org domain name registry. PIR is looking to hire a Vice President of Business Affairs, and this job opening could be a good opportunity for someone in the domain name industry. In fact, the first line item in the education and experience requirement section specifically mentions domain industry experience:
“10+ years’ experience in Channel Services or Marketing within the domain name industry”
In addition to domain industry experience, the section covering knowledge and abilities also mentions the domain name industry:
“Significant knowledge of the domain name industry, including major competitors, influencers, regulatory bodies and technology”
and also this:
“Excellent written and oral communication skills with internal and external stakeholders, industry influencers, and customers.”
PIR is based in Reston, Virginia, and I believe this job will be based out of this office. I do not see any information about the salary or compensation, so interested applicants will need to connect with PIR to learn more about that.
For more information about the job opening or to apply for this job, you can find all of the details on LinkedIn. This job opening was posted on LinkedIn two weeks ago.
Looking at the job description, they will have to pay VERY WELL.
Plus, there is not a large pool that would meet those requirements.
And, even less in the Wash. DC area so most likely the person would have to move to Northern Va.
It is expensive to live in the Wash DC area.
Rush hour traffic is terrible.
Fortunately, Dulles Airport is approx. 20 min. away (excluding rush hour).
There are more job openings in the Wash DC area than potential qualified employees.
The person hired will not be there more than 2 yrs. since Amazon is opening a large East Coast Headquarters in that immediate area. They plan to hire the best available. And, domains are important to Bezos.
I have been to the PIR office. Unless something has changed in the past couple years, it is what I would call a small office.
They are hoping they will find a young Jon Nevett.
It would be an excellent stepping stone position.
