The Internet Commerce Association (ICA), a trade organization that represents the interests of the domain investment community, announced that it is planning to host an event in-person later this year. The event, which is tentatively scheduled for September 19-20 in Las Vegas, will be held to honor the ICA’s 15th anniversary. The ICA previously held a poll to ask members if they would attend an in-person event and gave members some location options from which to choose.
The event will be only be open to domain industry participants who are ICA members or sponsors of the event.
Beyond travel and hotel costs, there will be no cost for ICA members to attend the event aside from meals and beverages not covered by sponsors. The ICA hopes the entire event will be underwritten by sponsors. Full details about the event are not yet available. A venue for the event has not yet been announced. For the time being, this seems to be along the lines of a “save the date” notice.
The email I received said the ICA will continue to monitor the situation as it relates to the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure it “can provide a safe setting for our meeting and abide by CDC guidelines.”
Conference sponsors are currently being sought, so companies interested in sponsorship opportunities should reach out to Kamila Sekiewicz, Executive Director of the ICA.
If I was planning to travel to Las Vegas for this event, I would likely wait on booking my hotel and flight until something more concrete is established. I would also purchase travel insurance to ensure the cost of my trip is refundable in case the event doesn’t happen as planned.
Elliot, you see how my avatar has been a picture of Vegas for a while? Before covid and before the switch from Vegas for domain events, I was finally starting to get up a spark of desire to possibly attend one of them. If more are held in Vegas going forward, I may finally take the plunge. Have thought about even moving there for a while now, but not so sure anymore. If you want to get me to blow my cover just start drinking some alcohol or eating sugar and carbs in public, but I’m strong enough to resist the urge to save you from that and blow my cover that way. 😉
Good luck.
The event should be open to anyone in the domain industry IMO. Just make non-members pay.
That’s not making a commitment to the ICA and the industry though. That’s just selfishly flying to Vegas for a boondoggle.
