GoDaddy has acquired the GCD.com domain name, as it announces a new entity called GoDaddy Corporate Domains. GCD is “a domain management solution for large companies.” While GoDaddy Corporate Domains is a new entity, it has its roots in the company’s acquisition of Brandsight, and it appears the Brandsight team is now working for GCD.
Earlier this year, GoDaddy acquired Brandsight, a corporate domain name management and branding agency. The Brandsight domain name now forwards to GCD.com. In addition, the Brandsight Twitter account can now be found at the @gcd_team handle, which reported the press release:

Prior to the private acquisition of GCD.com, the domain name had been used by the Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP law firm. Faegre Drinker appears to have acquired the GCD.com domain name in the wake of its merger with Gardner Carton around 2007. The acquisition price of GCD.com is unknown, and I presume the company will keep it private. If I learn the price, I will share an update.
I think the acquisition of GCD.com was a wise one. It would be a bit disingenuous for the company to advise its clients about the merits of domain names while not owning its perfect GCD.com acronym domain name. In fact, the company will likely be able to refer to its own rebranding and the lessons it learned with the domain name change as it works with other companies who may be considering a rebrand or domain name change.
