Ether.com Hits the Market?

15

In a tweet on Monday, Evergreen COO Jen Sale posted about the domain name, Ether.com:

Ether is the unit of cryptocurrency used on the Ethereum blockchain. Ether also has significance and meaning beyond cryptocurrency. Put simply, Ether.com would have aftermarket value even if it weren’t for the cryptocurrency.

If you visit Ether.com, you can see it is an operational website which has nothing to do with cryptocurrency or Ethereum. The website seems to have been active for many years.

I presume this scenario is much like (more…) → Read More

UK Financial Magazine Writes About .com Domain Names

4

There was an article about .com domain names in the "UK's best selling financial magazine,MoneyWeek. The dotcom frenzy is far from over, written by Dominic Frisby, discusses how valuable exceptional .com domain names are right now and how expensive they can be to acquire. I think the author is on point, and some of the insights he shared are factors in my own domain name acquisition strategy.

Within the article, Evergreen COO Jen Sale is quoted extensively. I presume Mr. Frisby spent a fair amount of time discussing domain names with her, and it was a wise move to get her expert thoughts on the state of the .com domain name market. I understand that Evergreen has been involved in quite a few substantial domain name sales and acquisitions during the prior two years, and Jen has a good pulse of the state of the market.

I recommend that you read the article in its entirety, but I shared a few quotes from the article for your convenience: (more…) → Read More

The tweet links to a Business Insider Australia article that cites an industry study with insight about how brand names can impact the funding a startup receives at different stages. From the Business Insider article:
"Names are are easily pronounced, such as Uber and Lyft, are preferred by both early and late stage investors. They tend to be offered more money, whether its through crowd funders, angel investors, VCs or IPO investors.

Uniqueness is also virtue, but only → Read More

Jen Sale and Adam Strong Launch Evergreen

16

Domain industry veterans Adam Strong and Jen Sale are working together on their new domain consulting and brokerage company, Evergreen. I first learned about Evergreen at NamesCon, and the company was officially launched this week.

Evergreen's focus will be on the naming space. According to Jen, "we provide services that help companies discover new names for their startup or new products/services. We create, acquire, monitor and protect these naming assets over the lifetime of the brand."

Although the company plans to be active in the domain brokerage space, Jen told me they plan to do much more beyond brokering domain names. "We might easily be pigeon-holed as a brokerage firm, but we're more of a (more…) → Read More
