NamesCon begins today, and 1,200 attendees are expected here in Las Vegas. This is the largest NamesCon to date, and the conference promises to be productive.
One of the final NamesCon sponsor spotlight interviews is with Andres Ramirez, Vice President of Undeveloped.com. If you have questions for Andres, you can ask them in the comment area or you can ask him in person.
What is your company’s mandate, what sets you apart?
What sets Undeveloped apart is that we’ve just had it with the status quo that’s keeping the entire industry from reaching its true potential. We’re breaking old habits and introducing a new wave of excitement in a market that had been at a standstill for far too long.
From 2011 on we observed that the rise of adblockers & Google penalising domains parked on ad filled pages, the industry should shift towards becoming more sales oriented. This insight gave birth to Undeveloped.
We set out to build the first real domain marketplace, aiming to lower the barrier of entry for both buyers and sellers, bring more liquidity to the market for sellers and to introduce transparency in a market that is strongly perceived as murky by buyers. So far we can proud of ourselves as we’re accomplishing all three goals. By reinventing domain trading literally from start to end, we’ve built a domain marketplace that buyers love to use and sellers can’t live without once they’re signed up. Now, does that mean we’re satisfied yet? Not at all, but we’re about to set a new standard.
Can you share some growth numbers from 2015 with us?
Sure, our total sellers base has been growing with 25% month over month. Our active domain inventory added by our sellers has grown with 1100% in Q4 of 2015 alone, worth over $1.2B.
Next to that we’re also proud that we’ve been able to attract 1.2M domain buyers to our marketplace in 2015.
Who benefits from your product or service?
As a marketplace our main objective is to connect domain buyers and sellers. From a buyers perspective buying a domain on Undeveloped is easier, more transparent and in general without friction. By introducing direct communication lines with the seller for example our buyers feel more comfortable to buy a domain from the secondary market instead of registering an alternative name.
By providing our sellers with the right tools and mechanisms to get more leads for their domains and close more sales, every single domain investor can start selling more domains by using our marketplace and for sales pages.
What factors have contributed to your company’s growth and success?
Our strong data driven company culture where we literally encourage all teams to experiment as much as possible drives our success. While the parking pages of our competitors have remained the same for years now we’re testing a new feature, tweak or change in content on a weekly basis to make sure our sellers keep getting better results with us.
How would you define your company strategy and vision?
We’re almost reaching peak domain registrations in the major domain extensions. With more SMB’s going online the demand for domains will keep increasing dramatically while the supply, in for example, ccTLD’s will remain quite limited. That’s why we believe that the aftermarket will start seeing more activity if we make domain trading more accessible for buyers & sellers. By breaking barriers and introducing more transparency and ease of use we believe we can build a domain marketplace that will fuel more activity in the entire industry.
What are you most looking forward to at the upcoming conference?
Meeting the amazing people we’ve been in touch with via Skype, Email and Phone calls in person. It’s absolutely amazing to see such high number of industry stakeholders show up in Vegas and we’re very happy to be part of it this year.
Where can attendees find out more about your company, product or services while at NamesCon?
