Some of you in the domain investment community know Sol Orwell. I’ve known him for several years and have had the opportunity to get together with him a couple of times. Among other things, Orwell is the founder of Examine.com, “an online independent research guide about supplements and nutrition.” I think you’ll enjoy this interview he did with Andrew Warner of Mixergy.
In the interview, Orwell discusses a number of things, including the acquisition cost for the Examine.com domain name, revenue numbers, website objectives, and background information. The video interview is about an hour-long, and it’s well worth a watch when you have time. You can watch the video I embedded below, but if you have any questions for Orwell or Warner, you should visit Mixergy and post your questions there.
If you haven’t heard about Mixergy before, I think you’ll appreciate that you now know about it. Andrew Warner is the founder of Mixergy, and there are many, many interviews with successful entrepreneurs and business people. Warner is able to get these people to open up and share insight about their business, and I have never been disappointed after spending time watching one of his interviews.
When it first launched in 2011, I wrote about Examine.com, and it’s nice to see that the website took off and has been doing so well.
I wonder how sites like examine.com make money these days when google just keeps punishing content/article sites?
We’ve gone through the Google rollercoaster – we’re pretty much *the* trusted source for supplements, and because of that, we get a lot of referral traffic and mentions in mainstream media.
It’s cliche but we’ve focused on building value.
