Hippo Insurance Secures Hippo.com

It looks like Hippo Insurance has secured the high value Hippo.com domain name from its longtime former registrant. If you visit Hippo.com today, you will be forwarded to MyHippo.com. The likely domain name acquisition was tweeted about by Jamie Zoch earlier this morning:

Because the Whois record at Uniregistry does not show the full registrant information, I can not say for certain that the domain name was acquired by the insurance company. The only information I can see is that it is registered to a registrant in California. Historical Whois Records at DomainTools show the domain name had been registered to a company in Australia. The domain name had been parked with PPC links prior to the sale.

According to its CrunchBase profile, Hippo Insurance has raised over $200 million in funding. According to an article published in Fortune last month, the company may have a valuation in the $1 billion range.

I would be surprised if this was not a seven figure domain name sale. I reached out to the former registrant to ask for details. If I am able to find out any more information, I will share an update.

  1. The rate in which startups are upgrading to their EMD in recent month is staggering. Looks like the decision makers finally “got it”. Good news for all registrants of short generic keyword domains. (.com)

  2. For a person who admits to having little knowledge of doing Startups but do feel we have an ideal platform with 200,000 registered members of which 50,000 are regular daily users on https://pinup.com premium domain. Does anyone here know of a company that stands out from others that could be recommended for us to make inquiries’.
