DNForum Down for Upgrade

If you visited DNForum today, you probably noticed that the website is currently down. This downtime is expected, as DNForum owner Adam Dicker announced that the popular domain forum would be undergoing a major upgrade. It does not appear that the look and feel of the website will change, but there are a number of modification that are being made.

According to Dicker, here is what will be changed when you return to DNForum upon completion of the upgrades and updates:

1) The sidebar will show latest threads.
2) Ability to save keywords you like Receive an instant email notification when a new post matches your chosen keywords.
3) Professional FAQ will be added.
4) Ability to schedule posts, yup, you can schedule when a post gets posted!
5) The ability to login with Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus.
6) A crazy new like system with a dislike option and many other features.
7) It will show all users who read a thread
8) The ability to have alerts pushed to your mobile device.
9) Easy mobile look and feel.
10) While a URL is being auto linked, the page title is fetched and added to the post.

Personally, I don’t like the idea of #7. I don’t want someone to try and pitch me their domain name via email or private message simply because they saw that I clicked onto their thread. This will make me less likely to click sales threads because I receive enough emails about buying domain names as is. I am looking forward to seeing all of the implemented changes and hope the update goes smoothly.

As with most major website updates and changes, it could take a bit of time to finalize the work. If you notice any bugs when DNF comes back online, you should report them.

  1. #7 isn’t a good idea, unless we’re talking about showing users who are actively viewing a thread (in real-time). That functionality is pretty standard on message boards, and I can’t think of two other domain boards that already show that.

    If it’s showing a list of every user who’s ever viewed a thread, then, no, I don’t like it. And I don’t really see why it’s useful.

  2. Is this the same “upgrade” that was PROMISED back in June of 2013? The one that was announced after NamePros did their major upgrade? And during that time NO reason given, Very disrespectful to members who PAID to be there.

    Promise something and don’t deliver, and they wonder why the participation rate is so low.. Change the skins and the interface all you want to, run as many football pool’s as you want, the forum will always be second rate as long as Dicker and his team of incompetent moderators are running it.

    • In DNF’s defense, migrating between forum software is pretty difficult. The tools to do so tend to be incomplete and shoddy at best; it’s a time-consuming process to fix and customize them. Adam may have announced the update a bit too early, but kudos to him and his team for pulling it off. I noticed a few bugs, but overall I thought it went rather smoothly.

    • Are you always this dishonest with yourself?, were talking about 10+ months ago when the upgrade was first announced;

      Even if they were working on it as you say, it looks even worse for not updating the thread all this time, nothing noted by administrators since July 2013 when testing on new servers was supposedly taking place, Keeping all paid members in the dark, Anyone with an ounce of class would have kept the thread updated, with something like;

      “To all members; My apologies for the delay in launching the upgrade, I’m told by our developers it wont be ready for launch until mid 2014. In the meantime I would greatly appreciate your patience.

      How hard is that type?

  3. One doesn’t have to care to point out the obvious, but since you asked, I have a lot of friends there and their in the position of not being able to say anything for fear of having their membership degraded or banned.. “Speak out about how poorly we run our forum and we punish you” If you read that thread, that’s just what happened to one member, but you better look quick before the thread is pulled.

    • LOL, save the love, I’d much rather see you apologize to all your members for taking 10 months to come through on your word.
