I was looking at DomainTools’ DailyChanges.com today, and I noticed that Internet Traffic DNS now has more domain names on them than Domain Sponsor DNS. I don’t look at Daily Changes every day, so this likely did not just happen, and the number likely fluctuates.
According to Daily Changes, there are 1,242,445 domain names on InternetTraffic.com DNS and 1,124,620 domain names on DSRedirection.com as of today. Some people may use their own DNS for parking though, so this number may not be completely accurate. One other thing to keep in mind is that DailyChanges.com only counts the top 6 domain extensions, including .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, and .us.
On May 16, 2011, it was announced that Frank Schilling launched his InternetTraffic.com parking service. Unfortunately, I could not find the total number of names on Domain Sponsor DNS at the time Schilling’s parking service launched.
It’s remarkable to watch how quickly this business has grown, and the number of domain names being monetized on IT DNS continues to increase. I wonder how Internet Traffic usage compares to other legacy parking services.
I noticed the same thing the other day.
It figures, DS has not been very good at monetization for a few years now and nobody ever answers the phone or emails anymore, at least that’s my experience.
IT is way better also as far as payouts go.
The people who are involved, and registered with IT are die hards, they live breathe, domain names. They are obviously reinvesting, and still building portfolios, probably one of the best stacked marketplaces in terms of quality of domain names.
Internet Traffic had 1,295,429 domains as of 01/August/2012. DSRedirection.com had 1,144,459 on the same date. Those figures cover com/net/org/biz/info/mobi/asia/us/ie and have partial coverage of .eu, .de, .es, .fr, .co.uk, and .co ccTLDs. It looks like most of the conventional PPC hosters are seeing some decline. (Just working on the August stats updates.)
There were 54,336 identified co.uk, 1,210 identified .eu, 493 identified .es and 3,906 identified .co domains on internettraffic.com.
There were 8,964 identified .co.uk, 708 identified .eu, 400 identified .es and 1,359 identified .co domains on dsredirection.com.
However these figures are based on domains on the nameservers of the companies. Some PPC hosters use an IFRAME or Javascript include to serve adverts so the only way to be certain would be to spider all websites and correlate the PPC feeds with the PPC hosters. Sedo still has its registrar program that allows hosters to park undeveloped domains with PPC but the biggest PPC operator may be Godaddy as its PPC landing page for undeveloped domains represents large percentages of undeveloped domains in various TLDs.
