DC Comics Acquires DC.com from Deloitte

It’s not every day that we see an exceptional domain name change hands from one major corporation to another. That just happened with the valuable two letter DC.com domain name. Whois records show that DC.com is now owned by DC Comics:

DC.com does not yet resolve to a website, but I suspect the company will forward it to its website on DCComics.com. DC Comics could also choose to relaunch its website on the shorter DC.com domain name.

Historic Whois records maintained by DomainTools show that DC.com was previously owned by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. It appears the domain name changed hands this year, around the second week of April. From what I can see using Screenshots.com, Deloitte used the domain name for its Deloitte Consulting division.

Interestingly, DC Comics is owned by the newly formed Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate. As I reported two weeks ago, WBD acquired its acronym-matching WBD.com domain name in advance of its merger.

It is possible that the acquisition price for DC.com will be shared in a future WBD SEC filing. However, if the company does report its domain name acquisitions, the acquisitions of DC.com, WBD.com, and any other valuable domain names will likely be grouped together in one line item. This would make it impossible to know the individual prices. Deloitte is a privately-held company, so I doubt it will share the sale price of DC.com.

DC Comics’ acquisition of DC.com was first spotted and reported by George Kirikos this morning on Twitter:
