In April, I reported on HubSpot’s acquisition of Connect.com. At the time of the sale, the acquisition price was not shared publicly by either buyer or seller. On Sunday, George Kirikos uncovered a SEC filing with the $10 million sale price, and he was the first to publish an article about it.
I reached out to BrandForce Co-Founder and Vice President Louis Pickthall to see if he like to comment about the deal. I also asked him where this domain name sale ranks on his company’s list of top sales. Louis replied, and shared this with me:
“I can confirm the sale once again and finally the sales figure after the SEC filing. I would like to comment that CEO Dharmesh Shah was a pleasure to deal with during negotiations. He is a gentleman and it was a lengthy discussion, but concluding the transaction was very smooth and both teams worked tremendously to complete the deal.
We do not wish to comment where it ranks on the BrandForce.com sales board.
We look forward to what the future holds and continue to endeavour selling some of the best domain names on the market!”
Ironically, I ran into a HubSpot employee and a former employee during the Pan-Mass Challenge ride on Saturday. They were riding together and one had a HubSpot logo on his cycling shorts. We briefly chatted about domain names, and they agreed that Dharmesh has great taste in domain names. In the past year, Dharmesh has also acquired WordPlay.com for $100,000 and SmartWallet.com for $175,000.
