Who I Don’t Think the Go Daddy .CO Girl Is

GoDaddy's .CO GirlEarlier today, Kevin Murphy posted the teaser photo released by Go Daddy with the back side of the new Go Daddy .CO girl who will be revealed in the Super Bowl commercial.

A couple weeks back, Mike Berkens speculated that it could be the very sexy Colombia-native Sofia Vergara, who stars in one of my wife’s favorite shows, Modern Family. This would seem like a good tie in since .CO is the Colombia ccTLD.

I have spent a lot of time reviewing this picture and inspecting similar pictures of Vergara. Anatomically, it looks like it could be her or perhaps even Shakira.

I am going to speculate that it won’t be Vergara or even Shakira, another famous Colombia-bred beauty. In my opinion, Go Daddy and the .CO Registry will not want to emphasize the Colombia connection to .CO and if anything, they may wish to de-emphasize it when selling it to the US public.

Colombia is a beautiful country with very welcoming people. But I don’t think the general US population will necessarily want to buy “Colombia domain names.” Much like the .TV extension likes to emphasize that it’s about “television” rather than Tuvulu, I think Go Daddy will probably de-emphasize the fact that it’s a country code TLD and prefer to emphasize that it’s an alternative to .com.

With a Colombian spokesmodel as the .CO girl, it will only play up its Colombia connection. It’s not a bad thing mind you, but you don’t really see .ME showing off it’s Montenegro roots. You can already see how Sedo is marketing its big .CO auction.

  1. Ok Elliot so like I told people on my blog its not good enough to say its not a Colombian girl.

There are like 7 billion people on the earth and only 45 million in Colombia there is a good mathematical probability that the .Co godaddy girl isn’t Colombian

So now you have a pic of legs and a butt

    So Who Do you got?

  2. @ Mike

Chelsea Handler, Jenny McCarthy, Joan Rivers, or Kathy Griffin.

If I was forced to choose one, I would say Jenny, although Joan was my first guess on your blog.

  3. I’ve always agreed that it isn’t a Colombian model for the same reason you expressed. IMO a very good guess could be Rapper Ice T’s wife because of the name, CoCo, but this girl can’t seem to be her. We’ll see.

  4. Colombia is known for music talent and beautiful women. However I will agree if Godaddy is promoting .CO as an alternative to .COM – get the domain you really want, it wouldn’t make sense to emphasize the Colombian connection. .CO has been heavily marketed and the Superbowl is certainly a platform to help it become more mainstream. Time will tell if the public accepts it. No doubt many developers and small business owners are tired of the prices .COM registrants ask for so-so .COM domains. We’ll see.

    Glad I forced you.

I think Chelsea is a little to thick to be that girl in the pics.

Jenny makes the most sense since its her charity that is holding an auction at the Playboy mansion and she is an iconic blonde bombshell who as the clue says is off the hook funny.

    Good pick.

  6. Whilst it probably isn’t the delightful Miss Vergara, that doesn’t mean to say I shouldn’t do much more research by examining photograhs of her from that angle – and many other ladies who aren’t from Colombia as well….

  7. After carefully investigating this photo, I believe that this is Kim Kardashian and I do think she will help increase the bottom line of .co’s assets.

  8. Kim Kardashian may not be iconic, but she was paid $25,000 last year to tweet about Armani’s new fashion line. That single 4-line tweet drove over 40,000 visitors to their site in less than 24 hours. She may be Armenian-American Barbie, but she’s got PR power.

I’ve read she’s supposed to be in a Sketchers commercial during the SB, though, so I’m not sure if they’d use the same girl in multiple commercials.

  9. @eddie
They are reserving Kim Kardashian for .xxx 😉

I don’t think the idea of using a Colombian model is a bright idea. That will simply defeat the purpose of making .CO more global.
What about Jessica Alba ? 🙂

  10. Reading your post it jumped to me:

    You wrote within the post:

“…Much like the .TV extension likes to emphasize that it’s about “television” rather than Tuvulu…”

I thought to myself: “it should be TUVALU, not Tuvulu, am I right?”

So I went to Wikipedia to double check and yes, it seems it should be Tuvalu.. seems your finger slipped there.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuvalu

So, for short the .TV ccTLD formerly belongs to Tuvalu; a Polynesian island nation located in the Pacific Ocean,

    Kind regards from .MX

  11. @ AB and Pat

    Good guesses.

It could be someone unexpected like Fey. With the pictures that are being released, it will be all the more funny if it’s someone not known for being a model. Tina Fey would be great for the role, especially in a humorous spot.

  12. Go Daddy girl has to be hot and model. otherwise they are just defeating the purpose. I don’t think a humorous chick will do justice to .CO name in anyway.
What about Sarah Palin ? 😛

  13. We’ve got our own girl over at Geotrust. She isn’t quite a Danica Patrick, but we thought she’d be pretty good, and not as expensive as Superbowl airtime.

  14. I’m going to go out on a limb here, and say Mila Kunis. She’s not exactly old enough to be “iconic,” but she’s hot right now (and hot in general), because of the hype around Black Swan.

She’s also “known for her humor” because she’s the voice of Meg in Family Guy, and was also on That 70s Show. She’s very short, but certainly attractive enough to fit the bill.
