Yesterday, I ran a $100 contest asking people to guess which domain name of mine has received the most purchase inquiries in the last month. I gave a list of domain names, some that are developed but most that are parked.
There were two people who correctly guessed BoracayHotels.com, Jen and Mike. Both of these people will split the $100 prize, and I’ll be in touch to get Paypal payment information.
Although BoracayHotels.com has received the most inquiries, it hasn’t been sold yet. I had a deal in place to sell the name to a domain investor for a little under $10,000 last year, but the buyer failed to pay.
I’ve turned down a number of solid offers on the name in the $5-8k range, but I haven’t sold it yet. Most of the recent offers have either been very low or no offer was made after letting the potential buyers know what I’ve turned down in the past.
In any case, it was interesting to see the psychology behind some of the guesses. Names like SHS.com, Burbank.com, and others are developed, and that has led to fewer inquiries. Also, some people guessed long shots to avoid sharing the prize.
I appreciate your taking the time to participate. I am sure I’ll have another contest to give away some money soon.
Congrats to Jen and Mike.
@Elliot
No endusers inquiries on BoracayHotels.com?
All recent inquiries have been from end users. They don’t want to pay the retail value.
Do you think grabbing the singular would be a good idea before one of your inquiries does? $2.6k you could probably get it for less.
No… I don’t think the singular is as good. IMO, in this space, money is in hotel reservations rather than hoping to sell it to a hotel, which would be the obvious play with the singular.
Just thought it would be a nice package. You could certainly put a hotel reservation site on it.
Best.
Maybe, but I have no interest in investing more into the name. I don’t think it adds enough value to make it a worthwhile investment, especially considering the offers I receive are for peanuts.
Elliot- are you related to Jen and Mike?
Are you guys willing to take the polygraph test?
I am requesting the Domain FBI to investigate this “phony” contest –sounds fishy.
anyway, great creative contest!
LOL
Payment has been made to Mike but I haven’t heard from Jen yet.
I fail to see value on that specific domain, that means you must know better than I do. Congratulations.
Boracay is rated the top beach destination in Asia and there are many hotels on the island.

Hi,
Note that some people are following your posts via their emails. Yesterday when I received email from your website, the contest was finished.
Wow, thanks Elliot. I’ve sent my info.
I really appreciate your generosity.
