Domainer Mardi Gras on Hiatus for 2011

A college friend emailed me on Sunday to see if we could get a group of us to hit up Mardi Gras this year, and I realized that I hadn't received any emails or heard anything about Domainer Mardi Gras this year.

I assumed it might have been cancelled or postponed in light of the heavy load of conferences in the beginning of the year, so I reached out to Michael Ward, Director of Marketing for Sure enough, Domainer Mardi Gras is on hiatus for 2011.

According to Michael, due to the Domain Roundtable conference  "in the Bahamas, along with ICANN SF taking place also in  March, we decided to not host DMG this year." This is a bummer. Last year, I was scheduled to go but got snowed in, and the prior year I also had a conflict.

IMO, it's a smart move to postpone it though, rather than compete with the other conferences. Michael hinted that the show  or a meet up of some sort could happen next year, and it's possible that it might take place during Jazz Fest, another fun annual event in New Orleans. I just received an email update from regarding the Yahoo and Bing merger, and the change over from the Yahoo feed to the Bing feed for Parked customers.  I would imagine this update also goes for WhyPark customers as well.

Here's the email update:

As many of you may be aware, the migration from Yahoo to is already underway and will be completed within the next few days.   All traffic that is currently sent to Yahoo in the US and Canada will be migrated from Yahoo to Bing.   Since these changes are being implemented in phases, we wanted to keep you informed of the process by providing specific dates of each phase to make the transition as seamless as possible.

Currently in the initial phase, 20% of all traffic we receive is sent to Bing. On Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 10am PST, Yahoo is scheduled to migrate up to 50% of the traffic to Bing.   Then in the final phase on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 10am PST, Yahoo will be migrating all of the remaining traffic to Bing.   So far the → Read More

Testing Domain Name Parking Companies

Just about all the domain names I own that get type-in traffic are developed. As a result, I don't do much parking. Well, I do park a lot of domain names, but 99.9% of them don't make much money, and I don't even consider PPC a revenue stream for my businesses. For years, I've been very happy using Fabulous for parking, and I still am happy - especially with their great customer service.

However, I've decided to do some testing. Generally, when I buy a domain name, I park it for a few days or weeks while deciding whether to develop or re-sell. More often than not, these domain names generate some money because they are better than the standard inventory of speculative domain names I own. I would usually add them to my Fabulous account and the default nameservers would automatically send the traffic to Fabulous.

During the past couple of domain conferences, I've had the chance to speak with Sig Solares, CEO of, and over the past couple of years, I've spoken with a number of happy customers of I haven't → Read More
