To me, the value in the TRAFFIC conference is the chance to meet domain investors and people who operate in the domain business. I wrote about my TRAFFIC conference experience, and I want to illustrate the value of the conference to my business.
I’ve known Deepak Daftari through my blog and a domain forum for a few years, although we never met in person. At TRAFFIC Las Vegas, we had the chance to meet and discuss domain investing and our businesses.
In one of our conversations, Deepak recommended that I speak with Mark Daniel and Joe Uddeme from Domain Holdings. I had never worked with Mark before, and I had only exchanged emails briefly with Joe prior to TRAFFIC. Later at the conference, Mark and I had a conversation about domain sales, and we agreed to speak the following week to discuss opportunities.
This afternoon, Mark and I spoke, and I shared a list of names I was looking to sell. During our conversation, Mark mentioned a domain name that I liked, and we discussed the price and value. I agreed to acquire the domain name privately, which is my first deal with Mark.
Had I not met Mark at TRAFFIC, this deal probably wouldn’t have happened since the seller requested that the domain name be marketed privately. I looked through my emails, and I didn’t see a record of it in the Domain Holdings newsletter or anywhere else. It was the first time I saw the domain name listed for sale, making it an even more enticing opportunity for my business.
This is actually my second deal with Domain Holdings this week. During Adam Dicker’s panel, Joe pulled me aside and told me that a seller with whom I was about to do business was a Domain Holdings client and that the deal would be completed through them at the seller’s request (they didn’t charge a brokerage fee since they didn’t technically broker the name). The deal is now finished, and I am awaiting the domain transfer.
Although I haven’t sold the name I bought today, and I can’t say that the conference paid for itself as a result of the deal, I am confident that this deal wouldn’t have happened had I not met Mark, and I am certain it will prove to drive a solid ROI.
What names and how much?
Names are private, deals were 5 figures each.
marks is good peeps
Reads like a paid advertisement
LOL… I didn’t even get invited to their party at Bank let alone paid for a blog post. Both domains were purchases not sales, and ill probably post the names at some point especially if I don’t flip them fast.
Well c’mon…tell us the names. Maybe I’ll buy one.
Congratulations, Elliot!!
You’ve been quite active buying, ^ selling this year, and it’s only early June!
July could be quite hottest! Here’s to mo’ successes.
Thanks… July is usually a quiet month, but we’ll see.

Mark sure did a good job on you.
You are supposed to sell but in the end you bought something at the store….just like going window shopping at HomeDepot but come out with STUFFS.
I am always buying names.
I am always selling names, too.
That’s how my business works.
BullS,
Your domains suck dog-balls…nobody wants them. They almost as bad as Dumenclature’s pigeon-shit list.
Miss M….I like to F you but the problem is I don’t know how to “contact” you but you know how to contact me.
Don’t be shy….
@Bulls
Here’s a little reward for checking this “m” culprit:
I’ll give you a couple of domain names to register, and the code to do it with. Since you’re the Marijuanaguy.com, you could be successful and own many stores, or websites. Here it goes:
marijuanachain.com weedchain.com
Use coupon Godaddy coupon code cjcrmn4c
Thanks man…I have enough marijuana domains to capture all the marijuana market,so much so that the drug cartel is peeing in their pants.
LOL, okay..
I was kidding the m dude
