I was just checking out Moniker’s tentative Geo Domain auction list on Mike’s Blog, and I think there are a few good domain names for sale at reasonable prices. Chances are good that I’ll be bidding on one or more of these domain names, but I wanted to post what I believe are the best values in the auction.
ColoradoRiver.com $25,001 – $50,000
NewRochelle.com $50,001 – $100,000
OysterBay.com $25,001 – $50,000
SanJuan.com $250,001 – $500,000
SantaClara.com $50,001 – $100,000
Secaucus.com $1 – $5,000
Versailles.com $50,001 – $100,000
My best piece of advice for anyone who is thinking about bidding is to do your due diligence and research prior to the auction. Don’t just focus on the domain name, but research the actual geographic area. Try to envision what you would build on the domain name should you win it, and determine if you will be able to turn a profit. As most geodomain owners will tell you, a geodomain needs to be developed to unlock its full value. Have a plan, and be ready to implement it if you are going to bid.
I may be bidding on one of these names, but it really depends on whether or not I think I will be able to manage another project at the moment. Once I return from my honeymoon, I will begin selling ad space in Lowell and Burbank.
For domainers/investors/developers looking to break into the Geo market these are all excellent buys.
I guess you will be keeping an eye on the buyer of Burbank.net

I had an opportunity to buy it a couple months ago but passed. Anyone who develops a .net will presumably drive traffic to the .com rather than the other way around.
congratulations and best wishes on all ventures!
I think all of these names are excellent but you may need deep pockets if you are just starting out!

Best of the lot: NewRochelle.com $50,001 – $100,000
I had three geo domain names I was going to enter but just got sidetracked with other things. They were Germanys.com, Brazils.com and Africas.com but I may enter them at a later date. I like the selection of names that was picked as favorites. I also like Zimbabwe.com which has lots of potential. The directory I built has a geo section in it. Maybe you might like to look at it: shopusaeu.com/html/page_3.html
I am over here in Dublin, Ireland and wish I could be in Chicago for the big event.
Regards,
Pat
My bet is that you’d go for NewRochelle.com or Secaucus.com. Those cities are in your backyard. And being a New Yorker myself, I regard both as somewhat affluence New York area communities which might be a good factor too. With these two perhaps you wouldn’t have to travel far or work hard as you did for Lowell and Burbank..

Too rich for my blood. It was offered for sale before, but I passed. I would be a buyer on NewRochelle.com at the right price, but I don’t think we’ll see that at the show.
After looking at the list again, I don’t think the auction results are going to be good, but I think that’s more of a reflection on the names and reserves than anything else.
Elliot,
I have a question about a .me geo name that I just purchased that I would love to ask you but don’t know your email address. Would you mind emailing me? Thanks!
Jeff
Zimbabwe.com has a lot of potential?
I’m no expert, but I’d hate to spend a quarter of a million dollars on a domain name hoping that a country ruled by a madman would change anytime soon!
I would have liked to attend this Geo Domain event, as i am wanting to enter this market. It sounds terribly exciting.
I see some of the names above, as gi-nourmous stock.
