Crowdsourcing a Website Idea Contest Has Ended

A week ago, I posted a contest “Crowdsourcing a Website Idea.” The person whose idea was selected by the domain owner managing the contest would receive a $500 prize. There were 70 comments posted and many great ideas, and the contest is now over.

I know that the contest was scheduled to end on April 4, but the contest is being closed a few days early. I was informed today that Lance has decided that none of the submissions were good (in his words, “all were garbage”), and he is going in a different direction with his website.

Unfortunately, as a result of his ending the contest early, nobody will be selected as the winner. Lance did want me to thank everyone for wasting his time and yours, and he wants to wish you all luck in your online endeavors (“they’ll need it,” he said).

Now that I got you all worked up, I want to wish you a Happy April Fool’s Day. Contest is still open and looking for submissions until April 4.

  1. Good one Elliot 🙂

Given your interest, I think that you (and the other readers here) would be really interested in some recent research that I have come across that theorizes about crowds and such similar phenomena.

It’s called “The Theory of Crowd Capital” and you can download it here if you’re interested:

In my view it provides a powerful, yet simple model, getting to the heart of the matter. Enjoy!
