NamesCon Global is quickly approaching. The conference will be held at the end of January in Las Vegas.

NamesCon organizers just emailed me about a special offer for past attendees to save 25% off their ticket price. In addition, there will be three opportunities for those people to win a free pass for a friend who has not attended NamesCon.

“We are running a contest for the next 3 weeks for those who submit a NamesCon testimonial. The participants will receive a 25% discount for a conference pass. They will also be entered into a weekly draw to win a complImentary pass for a friend who has never attended NamesCon before.”

Here’s a graphic with more details about this special offer. Contact NamesCon organizers directly with any questions:

ICA Seeking Nominations for 2019 Lonnie Borck Memorial Award

Shortly after the unexpected passing of Lonnie Borck, the Internet Commerce Association (ICA) created a domain industry award in his memory. The inaugural award was presented to David Weslow ofWiley Rein, and this year’s award was given to Kathy Kleiman.

The ICA is currently seeking nominations for the 2019 Lonnie Borck Memorial Award. Here’s a description of the Award:

“The Lonnie Borck Memorial Award is granted to an individual for indelible contribution to domain investor rights, and we invite you all to take part in the process and submit your suggestions for the nominees. The nomination process is open to the entire domain name community.”

Nominations will be accepted until November 1st. The ICA Board of Directors will review the nominations and vote on the winner. The Award will be presented during the NamesCon conference in January.

If you know of someone who has made a lasting contribution to protecting and enabling the rights of domain name investors, you should think about submitting a nomination. There are quite a few people that go above and beyond to help protect the rights of domain investors, and it is nice that we can honor them. I already know who I am going to nominate.

Not a week goes by that I don’t think about Lonnie. It’s nice to see this Award being given to someone deserving.

NamesCon Announces NamesCon Europe 2019 will be in Lisbon

One of the neat things about Domaining Europe was that the conference regularly changed locations in Europe. The conference, which was founded by Dietmar Stefitz, rebranded as NamesCon Europe, but the tradition of changing locations seems to have stuck. Last night, NamesCon announced the 2019 NamesCon Europe conference will be held in Lisbon, Portugal:

I reached out to NamesCon organizers to get more information, and although the dates have not yet been set, conferences tickets are now on sale. NamesCon’s Terri Potratz told me “tickets are refundable up to 30 days before the event.” I was also told that the event will be held in June of 2019, although the exact date and location in Lisbon have not been finalized just yet. Great.com: Why Erik Bergman Spent $900,000 to Buy It

The second largest domain name sale of 2018 (to date) is the $900,000 sale of Great.com. The domain name was bought by a tech entrepreneur named Erik Bergman at this year’s NamesCon live domain name auction on NameJet. Erik reached out to me discuss why he spent nearly seven figures on Great.com and to let me know how Great.com will be used by him.

Erik is an online entrepreneur who built a large business with a focus on affiliate marketing. His specialty has been SEO, conversion optimization, and email marketing, all of which help make someone make money through the affiliate channel. He co-founded a company called Catena Media, and Erik told me he and his partner took the company public in 2015. Erik did very well financially from the public offering, and this is what spurred him to think about charity and helping others. It is with this in mind that Erik acquired Great.com.

According to Erik, Great.com will be a commercial endeavor with the goal of giving away all of the proceeds to charitable causes. Here’s what Erik told me about how Great.com will be used:

2018 NamesCon Auction “Remix” on NameJet

The other day, I realized that NameJet still had the NamesCon link in its header, and now I know why. NameJet is re-auctioning a large group of domain names that did not sell during the NamesCon live or silent auction.

According to an email I received from NameJet announcing this “NamesCon 2018 Remix,” there is a secondary auction made up of unsold NamesCon auction domain names. Many of the reserve prices have been lowered by their owners to help induce a sale. People who kept their backorders for auctions likely noticed the domain names coming up for sale again, but others may wish to take another look to see if the reduced reserve prices make some of the domain names more interesting.

Some of the better domain names that are coming up for auction again include the following:
