UDRP Filed Against Zero.com, Which Sold for Over $329k (Updated)

Zero.com UDRP

A UDRP has been filed against the Zero.com domain name at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The complainant in this case is listed as CKL Holdings N.V. The Zero.com UDRP is WIPO Case D2016-1382.

When I saw the UDRP in the WIPO database, I had to do a double take. Zero.com was created back in June of 1992, nearly 25 years ago. The domain name looks like it is privately registered, as the registrant is listed as DNStination Inc. When I visited Zero.com today, the domain name only resolved to an ISP error page for me, although I am not sure if that changed as a result of the UDRP filing.

A Whois History search at DomainTools shows that the DNStination Inc. has been the registrant since at least early 2011. A search of NameBio shows that Zero.com “last sold for $329,420 on 2010-10-24 at SnapNames.” I did a search of

UDRP Filed Against Qualcomm’s IMOD.com Domain Name (Update)

imod.com udrp

I don’t regularly see UDRPs filed against domain names owned by large corporations. It looks like a company has filed a UDRP against IMOD.com, a domain name owned by Qualcomm. The UDRP was filed at the World Intellectual Property Organization, and it is UDRP case D2016-1327.

The IMOD.com domain name was created in April of 2002, although it had previously had been registered before that and later expired. According to DomainTools Whois History Tool, the earliest entry showing Qualcomm as registrant is from July of 2006. The previous Whois History entry is from 2005, so Qualcomm may have owned it before this date.

If you visit IMOD.com, you are taken to a Qualcomm Mirasol page within the Qualcomm website. I did a Google search for Qualcomm and IMOD to see what the relationship is, and I learned that IMOD stands for “interferometric modulation.” You can read more about IMOD and Qualcomm’s Mirosol technology on this page within the Qualcomm website.

Sold on NameJet in 2013; UDRP Filed on DeCecco.com (Updated)

A UDRP has been filed against DeCecco.com at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). It is WIPO Case D2016-1273. The complainant in this UDRP is listed as F.lli De Cecco S.p.A.

The DeCecco.com domain name sounded  familiar to me because I was a bidder when it went to auction at NameJet in 2013. There were 42 bids placed in the auction from 29 bidders, and the domain name sold for a modest $505. A historical Whois search at DomainTools just prior to the original auction shows the registrant as “Pending Renewal or Deletion,” so this leads me to believe it was an expired domain name auction at NameJet.

DeCecco.com was listed again in a private auction at NameJet in February of this year. The high bid in this most recent auction was

Three Wins in a Row for ESQwire

Attorneys Jason Schaeffer and Ari Goldberger of ESQwire.com are having a great week. Earlier today, I wrote about their successful defense and RDNH finding on the Uniks.com UDRP and the successful defense of the Meryl.com UDRP. This afternoon, Jason Schaeffer shared a third UDRP victory the law firm scored on behalf of a client.

In the yet to be published online UDRP decision at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), ESQwire successfully defended the galec.com domain name on behalf of its registrant. The complainant in this UDRP filing was listed as Societe Cooperative Groupements d’Achats des Centres Leclerc, SC GALEC.

Here is an excerpt from the decision that is most relevant to the finding that the complaint was denied:

RDNH Finding in Uniks.com UDRP

A company called UNIKS APP, S.L. of Barcelona, Spain filed a UDRP at the World Intellectual Property Organization for the Uniks.com domain name. The domain name owner (respondent) was represented by ESQwire.com, the Internet and domain name focused law firm led by Ari Goldberger and Jason Schaeffer. Interestingly, it is the second UDRP victory of the week for ESQwire, which also represented the owner in the Meryl.com UDRP.

To get straight to the point, this three member WIPO panel decided in favor of the respondent, who will retain the Uniks.com domain name. In fact, the panel ruled that this was a case of Reverse Domain Name Hijacking. In a  harshly written tone, here’s how the panel ruled in that regard:

BillyBobs.com Subject of UDRP (Update)

A UDRP was filed against the BillyBobs.com domain name. The UDRP was filed at the World Intellectual Property Organization, and it is WIPO Case D2016-1221.

BillyBobs.com is registered to Name Administration, the Grand Cayman-based company operated by Frank Schilling. The domain name was registered in 2003, and a DomainTools Whois history search shows that Name Adminstration owned the domain name since at least 2004 and most likely 2003 (there is no record archived between the creation date and 2004 to confirm). The domain name is parked and is showing naming-related PPC links and is listed for sale via Uniregistry Market.
