Kate Buckley Responds to Allegations Made on NamePros

Last week, I saw a thread on NamePros with an allegation made about the sale of Chocolate.com. I reached out to Kate Buckley, the domain broker who brokered the sale of Chocolate.com to see if she had any comment about the allegation that was made. This evening, Kate reached out to me with an open letter to be shared with the domain investment community.

In addition to her own commentary about the sales and her business, Kate shared comments from several clients about their experience working with her. In addition, Jackson Elsegood, General Manager of Escrow.com, confirmed that two deals in question “were both 7 figure domain deals transacted through Escrow.com in 2019 and 2018 respectively.” With regards to a third transaction, an attorney named Dean Bell confirmed he acted as escrow agent for that deal.

Here’s the letter I received from Kate:

Network Solutions Sends Security Alert Email

Last week, I wrote about a security incident at Network Solutions, Register.com, and Web.com that was announced by these registrars. All three of these domain registrars owned and operated by Web.com. By chance, when I was logging in to my Register.com account, I discovered the security alert that appeared to be quietly published by the registrars. I had not received an email about the incident, nor did I see any mention of it on social media. At the time I published my article, I was told the registrars were in the process of notifying customers about the alert via email.

Web.com Reports Security Incident at Its Registrars

Web.com, Network Solutions, and Register.com report “a third-party gained unauthorized access to a limited number of our computer systems in late August 2019

I have a Register.com account because of my NameJet bidding account. When an expired domain name that is registered at Register.com is auctioned at NameJet and I win the auction, the domain name is provisioned to my Register.com account. Typically, I will quickly unlock the domain name and transfer it to my preferred registrar to consolidate my holdings.

This morning, I received a standard email from Register.com to let me know a domain name I won on NameJet was provisioned to my Register.com account. I logged into my account and was met with a password reset prompt. I changed my password and logged in to my account again, where I noticed a red security message on my account dashboard: “Important Security Information. Click Here to Learn More.”
