DomainSponsor Introduces DomainFest One-Day Power Networking Events

I received a press release (below) today announcing that Oversee.net and Domain Sponsor will hold two localized one-day networking events in Ft. Lauderdale and New York City later this year. The respective events will be held at local hotels in May and August. Although an agenda outline wasn’t announced, it seems like the events are geared to be casual gatherings followed by live auctions.

Personally, I don’t think I will be in attendance for the NYC event. Although $175 is cheap by conference standards, I don’t think I will spend the money to network with people I frequently see at (free/cash bar) domain networking events that have been held in NYC every few months. I know they need to pay a hotel to have the event (since there is an auction), but the cost seems pretty high for what it is billed as.

I’d rather spend my $175 on a great meal with drinks in a more intimate setting with friends and colleagues from the area. I know that means I will miss out on seeing friends from Oversee, but they are more than welcome to attend the local events for free 🙂

BTW, you can check out local domain events on SocialDomainers.com, which is running an iPad giveaway contest right now.

——- Press Release ——–

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – DomainSponsor ®, the domain monetization business unit of Oversee.net ® and organizer of the DOMAINfest ® series of conferences, said today that it will further expand the highly regarded franchise with one-day events in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and New York City.

Both events will precede DOMAINfest Europe to be held in Prague, October 6-7, 2010.

Event Information
The one-day events will be held on May 13, 2010 at the W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale and on August 18, 2010 at the Grand Hyatt in midtown Manhattan, immediately following the Affiliate Summit East conference.

Each meeting will continue DOMAINfest’s tradition of providing a rich setting for discussions around how to increase the value of Internet real estate with subject-matter experts invited to facilitate free-flowing power networking sessions that will kick off each event from 1:30 pm to 3:30pm EDT. Moniker will conduct a live auction of premium names from 4:00 to 7:00 PM EDT, followed by a private dinner party hosted by DomainSponsor.

Registration for both Power Networking events will be available online at www.domainfest.com on Monday, April 12, 2010.   The registration fee will be $175 per event.

Moniker ® Auctions
Each one-day DOMAINfest event will feature a Moniker live premium domain name auction followed by a weeklong Extended Online Auction.   The live auctions are slated to start at 4:00 PM EDT and run through 7:00 PM.   The SnapNames Liveâ„¢ technology used to run these live auctions offers real-time online viewing and bidding from anywhere in the world via a free software download.   Details on how to submit domains and bid either in-person or remotely in any Moniker live auction can be found at http://domainauctions.moniker.com

“The DOMAINfest franchise provides an excellent opportunity for publishers, online marketers and internet professionals to exchange ideas and solidify relationships,” said Peter Celeste, Senior Vice President of Oversee.net and General Manger, Monetization Services. “These one-day power networking events are specifically designed to encourage more participation from local and regional professionals who may not be able to afford the time and expense to travel to a distant city for a two- or three-day event.   As with all DOMAINfest events, registration rates are inexpensive to encourage broad participation.”

In January, 2010, DomainSponsor hosted a highly successful DOMAINfest Global ® conference in Santa Monica, California that attracted more than 600 professionals from 26 countries representing a variety of internet-related industries.

Exclusive Domain Conference Being Held at The Palms on March 22-23

Did you know there’s an exclusive domain conference being held at The Palms resort in Las Vegas on March 22-23? The Domain Madness 2 conference is being run by DomainConsultant.com, and it sold out within a few days. Most of the attendees are domain investors who attended last year, and a few others received personal invitations.

Last year, the conference was held in a private suite at The Palms, and I heard it was a great event. Like last year’s conference, there’s going to be a live domain auction held at the event. Bidders can bid on site or they can bid online using a platform that will be announced soon.

You are welcome to submit domain names for review, but they are looking for great domain names only. Visit the Domain Consultant website for more details on domain submissions.

Moniker’s Monte Cahn Featured on WebProNews Video at SMX

Monte Cahn, co-founder and President of Moniker, was featured yesterday in a video on WebProNews.com. The video was taken this week at the SMX West conference held in Santa Clara, California. In the video embedded below, Monte discusses the value and importance of owning the right domain name.

Chef… errr… Captain Patrick Announces Domain Conference Cruise

Chef Patrick of Chef Patrick.com is going to be hosting a domaining conference so awesome it will literally make you float. This event will be the first domaining conference he’s held and the industry’s first ever conference on a boat. The event will be accommodated aboard the Carnival ship Imagination.

The cruise is leaving out of the port of Miami, Florida on October 11, 2010 and returns to Miami on October 15. DNCruise is perfectly timed for those attending the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. event in South Beach, Miami, which kicks off on October 17, 2010.

With a starting price of only $429 per person (interior cabin), no other conference can offer such a great value. Fare includes your cabin, all you can eat food, cruise taxes, port fees, gratuities, most of your cocktails and your conference pass.

Chef Patrick promises a laid back atmosphere of fun and mingling mixed in with some speakers and sponsored parties. There will be plenty of free time as well to enjoy the beautiful beach in Cozumel, Mexico.

Although the conference is in the early stages of planning, DNCruise has had a tremendous amount of interest so far and anticipate selling out within the next few months. In addition, Chef Patrick has a lot of great sponsors already lined up and even more coming. These sponsors have allowed him to keep the pricing down and still cover the expenses for some awesome activities and parties.

Chef Patrick has lined-up some great speakers ranging from web development, domain investing, SEO, affiliate marketing and social media. He will encourage room participation through moderated group discussions. In addition he will hold several networking sessions in ways never before done!!!

If for some reason a guest cannot afford the pass, Chef Patrick will work out fair payment arrangements. No one should miss an opportunity like this to network with fellow domain investors.

If you’d like more information about the cruise or would like to book your room please visit www.DNCruise.com or you can contact Chef Patrick directly by email at Patrick@ChefPatrick.com or by phone at 702-373-1127

Super Bowl Sunday Quickie – Go Saints!

Just a few quick bullets on this super Super Bowl Sunday:

  • I have two lengthy articles about the current state of live domain auctions that I will post beginning tomorrow. The first part dissects what I believe are problems with auctions lately, and the second part offers some suggestions to improve them. Hopefully other domain investors can contribute some valuable feedback.
  • I’ve heard from a couple people that Domain Roundtable will be happening this year, despite the fact that the DRT website still shows information about the 2009 conference. I expect to hear where and when it will be held soon, assuming those two people were correct. Once I hear, I will share with you.
  • A couple of people emailed me this week asking if I know anything about the GeoDomain Expo. As far as I know, it is still scheduled for New Orleans at the end of April (during Jazz Fest). I really hope the schedule is set ASAP because the price of flights seems to continue to increase and people need to make reservations soon.
  • If you live in the New York City area (or New Jersey), don’t forget that the Castello Brothers will be having drinks with us at the Campbell Apartment in Grand Central on Tuesday at 6pm. You can RSVP via comment or email. So far, about 25 people have confirmed.
  • I’m excited for tonight’s Super Bowl, and without a doubt, I am rooting for the New Orleans Saints. Next week’s Domainer Mardi Gras in NOLA will be even better if the Saints win and the city is celebrating.   As a Patriots fan, I generally root against the Colts, and New Orleans is one of my favorite cities, so it’s a no brainer for me.

Meet the Castello Brothers in New York City on February 9

David and Michael Castello will be speaking at the sold out Local Online Advertising Conference being put on by Borrell Associates. After the conference, the Castello Brothers will be the guests of honor at a special New York domainer get together.

On February 9th at 6pm, I am organizing a domainer get together at the Campbell Apartment in Grand Central. This classic jazz cocktail bar is located in bustling Grand Central Station, and is the perfect spot for a drink or two after work.

I have a reservation at the Campbell Apartment, but I need an approximate headcount by Monday.   Please email me or post a comment if you will be attending. In the past, there have been anywhere from 20-40 people at these get togethers, and it’s a great opportunity to meet other domain investors in the area.
