Go Daddy Social Media Team and Graphic Designers Working Overtime

In conjunction with the new Go Daddy advertising campaign called “It’s Go Time,” the company has initiated an excellent social media campaign. GoDaddy’s social media team has been responding to tweets mentioning the Go Daddy brand and ad campaign, and the company has been publishing amusing graphics customized for each reply.

Have a look at some of the replies featuring new “Go Daddy Guy,” Jean-Claude Van Damme, including one that was sent to me this morning. The social media team and graphic designers are working overtime, and it’s pretty ingenious:

Andrew Hazen’s Bobblehead Company: “Sales Near $10M”

I’ve written about Andrew Hazen’s successful business ventures a few times before. I’ve met Andrew a few times at domain industry events, and I’ve been following him on Twitter. He is an attorney and a successful Internet entrepreneur.

This morning, Newday, a Long Island publication, reported on another one of Andrew’s startup companies, AllBobbleheads.com. According to the article, the “Hicksville firm’s bobblehead sales near $10M.” This is pretty substantial revenue and growth, especially considering how the company started.

There are at least two domain investors who have grown strong businesses in the bobblehead business. Warren Royal founded Bobbleheads.com after acquiring the domain name via auction, and he has also done quite well with his company. I don’t have any idea what his sales numbers are, but every time I speak with him, it seems like his business is growing.

I guess a good lesson to learn is that while an exact match domain name can be extraordinarily beneficial to an entrepreneur with a good business plan, an experienced entrepreneur with a good business plan can use a non-EMD and find considerable success, too.

Vice President Joe Biden Domain Name Expires

JoeBiden.com

If Vice President Joe Biden intends to run for President in the 2016 US Presidential election, JoeBiden.com  should be renewed by someone associated with the VP. If the domain name isn’t renewed, it will most likely go to auction.

According to the default Network Solutions landing page currently showing on JoeBiden.com, the domain name expired on July 16, 2013. Prior to its expiration, JoeBiden.com was registered to an organization called Citizens for Biden.

A snapshot of the website from Screenshots.com shows that it previously forwarded to Vice President Biden’s page on the White House website. When then Senator Biden was running for President, JoeBiden.com was used as a campaign website, according to another screenshot. After joining the Democratic party ticket with President Barack Obama, a screenshot shows that the domain name forwarded to the victorious  campaign website, BarackObama.com.

Vice President Biden has been

MMQB: Peril Of Naming Your Website Without EMD

I want to share an imteresting story that was posted on Deadspin regarding the MMQB.com domain name.

Sports Illustrated (SI) columnist Peter King, who famously covers the National Football League, is known for his MMQB column. MMQB stands for “Monday Morning Quarterback,” and the column is regularly posted following Sunday football games with news, analysis, and opinions about the week’s NFL games. I always find myself reading the column to get King’s insight.

It was recently announced that SI would have a standalone website called The MMQB. The domain name that was referenced is TheMMQB.com, which currently forwards to

H&M Hiring “Search & Domain Strategist”

Bill Sweetman shared an interesting job opening that he saw, and I want to share it with you. H&M, a trendy clothing store with retail stores across the world, is looking to hire a Search & Domain Strategist. The reason I found it interesting is that the company has specifically listed domain names as a tool in its SEO strategy.

Here are a few of the requirements I found most interesting, with respect to domain names (full details can be seen within the job listing):

  • Create and maintain the search and domain name strategy, coordinating with stakeholders across the company.
  • Act as an advisor to legal department and all H&M brands on acquisition and legal actions for domain names and domain name owners profiting our brand.
  • Keep up to date with trends in search and domain name industry.

I find it interesting that the company is not only looking for someone to help protect the H&M brand when it comes to domain names, but they also appear to

Hilco Streambank Selling CircuitCity.com & CompUSA.com Domain Names

Hilco Streambank is the company that auctioned Bargain.com for $150,000, ETM.com for $16,659, and they privately sold the package of “My Website” related domain names and phone numbers for around $35,000. The company is now preparing for a much more significant domain name sale, which includes the CircuitCity.com and CompUSA.com domain names.

According to the sale description page:

“Hilco Streambank has been engaged to market for sale the Circuit City ® and CompUSA ® trademarks and associated domain names. This executive summary provides a brief description of the assets available for sale.

Hilco Streambank is currently soliciting offers for these brands and associated intellectual property assets. Please contact us to be granted access to the online data room for further diligence of the assets and to receive sale process details.

From what I understand, Hilco Streambank originally sold the Circuit City
