Last week, Afternic sold over $565,000 worth of publicly reported domain names. This amount only includes .com domain sales over $2,000 and .net/.org domain sales at $1,000 and higher.
Leading the way last week was the sale of SoulMate.com for $100,000. The previous registrant of the domain name was a company called Ultimate Choice Travel, and from the About Us page, it looks like a company called World Dating Partners is behind SoulMate.com. IMO, SoulMate.com is a great brand name.

The soulmate.com sale was good, but a bit much for two words that people aren’t searching for when seeking out a dating site…I’ve done some research on this subject for a site we’re going to be launching in 2012 (d8.tv).
The dating sites of tomorrow will need to cater to mobile users who will want to utilize video-mobile services and who will also want an ultra-short URL to access (our research discovered the best dating url’s of the future to be, in this order: d.tv, d.co, then d8.tv). The dating-niche can be incredibly profitable if approached with the right mind-set.

It’s an instantly recognizable brand. It just sounds like a dating site.
D8.tv would sound like D Eight to most people… and it’s a .tv. I won’t go there on this post because it will turn into another silly referendum on .tv and this post has absolutely nothing to do with .tv.
I think you should start a blog about .tv since you’ve done a lot of research.

It has no meaning to general public unless you spend few millions marketing it.

“d8” is almost universally recognized as meaning “date” to anyone under 25-years of age. Yes, you’re right, it does cost money to market your brand, your site, and/or your company…you’re a wise man to recognize this fact. 🙂
