Moniker & SnapNames: Websites Down

In case you’ve been trying to access Moniker or SnapNames, I want to make you aware that the company is experiencing a system outage. Unfortunately, that means DNS changes, registrations, account changes, and transfer initiations can’t be done in the meantime.

According to the company’s Facebook page about an hour ago:

“Our apologies for the disruption of services currently being experienced by Moniker and SnapNames customers. We are working to correct the issue and will keep you posted as we work on a resolution. Again our sincerest apologies.”

A few minutes ago, the company provided another update:

UPDATE: We continue to experience a system outage. Our engineers and network consultants are diligently working toward a solution. We will continue to provide updates until the issue is resolved. Our apologies for the inconvenience.

The company doesn’t know when the websites will be up and running again, but I assume it won’t be too long. I’ll give you an update when I hear more. I guess it’s not such a good week to be a domain registrar.

*** Update at 11:15 ***

Looks like the sites are back (or are in the process of coming back) online according to the latest tweet from the company:

  1. It is unbelievable that a company like Moniker that provides such a core service such as domain names and domain name servers could be down for over 4 hours (and counting)… impacting thousands of websites, companies, and people.

We understand that all companies have occasional hiccups, but when you provide a service like this, your contingency, backup, and disaster plans should not be so “cold” that it takes this long to failover, recover, and restore operations.

    For Moniker domain customers:

  2. This was one outage too much. Moniker has become crap. If I hadn’t about 300 domains there..
I really hate them for being down several HOURS!

As soon as they’re back online, the auto-renews will be cancelled and domains will be moved soon..
    better don’t come back, moniker..

moniker has been burning money too often now

everybody reading this: don’t go to moniker, its shit! it has been cool some years ago but they’re getting worse every day

    F*CK You Moniker!

  3. It appears that Moniker’s website is now resolving.

In the future, I think it would be best if the company had a message on the site if it goes down to let customers know they are working on the problem. Some people don’t check domain blogs, Facebook, or Twitter and it’s frustrating.

  4. I checked out of curiosity, and the last time they had a major outage was just over two months ago. So they managed to go down twice this quarter… stepping up their game.
