Former Mode CEO Shares Mode.com Acquisition Price

Several years ago, Mode made an important domain name acquisition. The company had been using ModeAnalytics.com, and it acquired the brand matching Mode.com domain name. I had been a bidder in the asset auction that was the precursor to the sale. When I saw it was later being represented by Joe Uddeme, I kept in touch with him about the name as it was being marketed.

Not surprisingly, Joe successfully brokered the sale of Mode.com. I believe I already knew that. What I did not know is how much the company paid to acquire Mode.com.

What Afternic Needs to Fix / Add on New Landers

Yesterday, I wrote about the new Afternic landing pages that look similar to the Dan landers but with a GoDaddy logo and url. I am going to be migrating most of my inventory currently using Dan.com landing pages, but it is going to take some time to do all of that.

I’ve seen quite a few people share feedback and requests on X. I have also seen people reporting issues and bugs. I have been sharing my own feedback with GoDaddy representatives, and I thought I would put a list together with some of the things I would like to see before moving any of my names priced above $2,000+/-.

Goodbye, Dan.com

I’ve done quite a bit of business with Dan.com. In fact, I probably have more deal revenue on Dan.com than anywhere else other than private sales. The platform has been easy to use as a seller and as a buyer. The only real knock I’ve ever had with Dan.com is their brand wasn’t well-known, and it may not have had a trust factor when doing large deals or long-term deals. GoDaddy’s acquisition of Dan.com helped rectify that issue, and it’s been relatively smooth sailing since then.

This morning, Afternic made an announcement that has been in the works for a while. The sales platform launched a GoDaddy-branded landing page that is very similar to Dan.com landing pages, without the Dan.com branding.

Spaceship Introduces (Free) Whois History Tool

This morning, Namecheap and Spaceship Founder and CEO Richard Kirkendall announced a free Whois history tool that is available on Spaceship.com. Users don’t need to be logged into their Spaceship account – or even Spaceship customers – to access this free tool.

Richard shared a video demonstration of how it works in a post via X:

Remove BIN From Landing Page Before Outbound

I’ve been doing a bit of outbound marketing on some of my lower value inventory-quality domain names. I have been using DomainLeads.com as well as Google searches for lead generation and reaching out to prospective buyers to move some of this inventory.

One thing I’ve been trying to do is to remove BIN pricing from my landing pages before doing outbound. I haven’t been removing BIN prices from platforms like Sedo or Afternic, because I am more likely to forget to re-add it, but it would probably be wise if I did that, too.

Collecting Cards

When I was a kid and in my teens, I collected baseball and basketball cards. I had binders and boxes full of sports cards. I bought packs of cards and traded cards with friends. I also collected various collectibles – like Starting Lineup figures and Wheaties boxes with athletes images on the front of the box.

I recently brought my collection to my home from my childhood home so I could share with my kids. My son has been collecting sports cards with a focus on soccer cards. It was fun going through my card collection with him because he has seen highlights of many of the players and has seen some of them play or watched them on tv.
