Last year, I rode my 12th Pan-Mass Challenge to raise funds for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Seven of those years were with attorney John Berryhill. With help from colleagues, friends, and family, we have raised more than $200,000 to further the cancer fighting mission of Dana-Farber.
Truth be told, I was not planning to ride this year. I have a longstanding commitment with some friends during PMC weekend, and my family is traveling quite a bit this Summer so I wouldn’t get the miles in on my bicycle. When the January signup window passed without signing up, I regretted it but figured I would be back again next year.
Throughout the past six months, I’ve regretted not signing up much more than I expected. Dana-Farber does so much for so many people who have cancer. I know of quite a few people who benefitted from the care at DFCI, and there are many more who benefit from its research.
Every time I saw a PMC banner or someone wearing some PMC merch I thought about this decision. I don’t want to take the year off as I originally planned, and I will figure out how to get the miles in so I am in good enough shape to ride.
Because of my prior commitment, I am going to ride a different PMC route. I am doing the route I did for my first PMC ride – the Wellesley 50 mile route on Sunday, August 2. Depending on how things shake out, I may ride more than that, but I will see how it goes.
Although I am not going to create a custom jersey for this ride, I will wear one of the domain industry jerseys I previously created. As I recall, most of the one-day cyclists wear the traditional PMC jersey, so I will probably stand out with my custom jersey. The jersey I will wear is TBD.
I would appreciate the generous support of my domain investment business friends and colleagues. Listed below are those who have supported my PMC ride with a donation to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute this year. My ride may be a bit different, but my support of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Pan-Mass Challenge is unwavering.
