Color .com Domain Name Sale Prices (Updated)

I regularly receive offers and inquiries for Lilac.com. As you probably know, lilac is a color in the purple family in addition to being a shrub / flower.

Just like every other type of domain name, most offers I receive for this domain name aren’t even close to being in the ballpark of value or previous offers. To avoid annoying back and forth discussions with buyers who don’t know much about domain names, I regularly share the reported sale prices of other color related domain names. I thought I would share this list here to give people an idea of how color-related domain names sell, but perhaps selfishly, to also see if readers know about other documented color .com sales.

Here is a compiled list of color .com domain names that I found that have been sold and reported publicly. If you know of any other color .com domain name sales, please share them in the comment section along with the source of the sale information and I will add them to the list.

Note: This color .com sale list is regularly updated.

Oliver Stone’s Domain Name Expires

Oliver Stone is an award winning director and screenwriter who is  known for films such as  Scarface, Wall Street, Platoon, Natural Born Killers, JFK, and a ton of other awesome  movies. Depending on your age and location, it is highly likely that you have seen an Oliver Stone movie at some point in your life.

It looks like Stone’s  domain name, OliverStone.com, expired on October 16, and it will be headed to auction at NameJet if it is not renewed:

I have published two articles in the last couple of weeks about celebrity domain names expiring. BobCostas.com and JackNicholson.com expired within a few days of each other, and it appears that both were renewed. I did a bit of searching on Archive.org, and it didn’t seem like either of those domain names was  developed.

Unfortunately for Mr. Stone, it appears that OliverStone.com was being used. In fact, if you visit Stone’s official  Twitter page, you can see a link to the OliverStone.com domain name right in his profile:

Archive.org shows that OliverStone.com had been a developed website with information about Mr. Stone. It looks like the title of the website when it was live was “The Oliver Stone Experience.”

Kernel, With $100MM in Funding, is Using a .CO Domain

The other day I read some tech industry headlines about Kernel, “a human intelligence (HI) company developing the world’s first neuroprosthesis to mimic, repair and improve cognition.” According to TechCrunch, the founder of Kernel is going to be investing $100 million into this startup. Interestingly, as highlighted by Doron Vermaat on Twitter yesterday, the company is using the Kernel.CO domain name for its website:

A  Whois search shows that Kernel.CO was created

Hillary Clinton Using .IO Domain Name

One of the trends (IMO) that has emerged during the last couple of years is the usage of .IO domain names. I’ve seen quite a few startups using domain names with the .IO extension, and it seems that the values of these domain names are increasing. I do not own any .IO domain names and don’t closely follow the market, so this is just an unsupported observation.

Last night, I read an article on Mashable that discussed a new commercial for Hillary Clinton’s Presidential campaign. One thing I immediately noticed was a small link on the top right hand corner of the commercial: HRC.io. Clicking on the link brings you directly to Clinton’s campaign website.

Here’s the television commercial that has been making the rounds. You can see the HRC.io url when you hover over the video:

Some Thoughts on The Domain Industry Blog Award

As you may or may not know, I won an award for best domain blog at THE Domain Conference last  month. Firstly, thanks for that recognition. Whether the award is deserved or not, I appreciate this recognition.  From my perspective, I don’t think I have done anything different or better this year than in other years.

If I were to guess, I think this particular category may have been influenced by voting in other categories. In at least a couple of categories, I saw (and heard about) people and companies who asked for support from clients, associates, friends…etc. There is nothing wrong with that, especially if the winner could benefit from winning. When these nominees received votes, their voters also  likely selected a blogger of the year, whether they cared about the category or not. I am sure I benefitted from this.

I did not

Donald Trump Mentions ClintonKaine.com on Facebook

A few weeks ago, I wrote about the sale of ClintonKaine.com via Flippa for $15,000. Shortly after the sale concluded, the ClintonKane.com domain name began forwarding to a page within Donald Trump’s Presidential campaign website.

It looks like Donald Trump has acknowledged the ClintonKaine.com domain name publicly for the first time in a Facebook post today:
