ccTLD Domain Names Subject to Home Country Governance

6

Country Code Top-Level Domains (ccTLDs) are internet domain name extensions that are designated for a country or sovereign state. Each is identified by two-letter codes such as .IT for Italy, .CA for Canada, and .IN for India. The primary purpose of a ccTLD is to show its association with a particular geographical locations.

In addition to its local usage, ccTLD domain names have long been used as .com alternatives or for domain name hacks. For instance, years ago, the .LY extension was popular because of services like Bitly. More recently .AI and .IO have become popular domain name extensions that are sought after by companies and domain investors alike from around the world.

Ammar Kubba Shares Background About .io Sale

1

Pickleball player Ammar Kubba – founder of and investor in numerous domain industry companies – recently announced two .io domain name sales. The first sale was closed while he was playing pickleball. The second was closed while he was thinking about playing pickleball.

Notably, after sharing his second .io domain name sale, Ammar shared some background about other domain names with the same keyword. I found this noteworthy because the attributes of the other extensions were not what I would normally guess for a ~$10k .io domain name sale.

No LTO for Trend Types of Names

1

I have the lease to own (LTO) option enabled on nearly all of my inventory-quality domain names. The maximum length of the lease term is generally set based on the price of the domain names. There is one category of domain name I won’t offer LTO on – trend domain names.

For trend types of domain names – either a hot topic or something along those lines, I want people to pay in full before using my domain name. I don’t want them to pay a fraction of the cost, use the domain name while the topic is hot, and then dump the domain name back to me once the trend has subsided.

Poll: Do You Submit Names to Squadhelp Contests?

6

One of the neat features of Squadhelp is the naming contests the platform hosts. People seeking a brand and/or domain name can post a contest along with a comprehensive contest brief outlining what they are seeking along with a financial award for the winning entry. Domain name sellers on the platform can submit domain names to the contest.

As each contest goes on, the contest holder can rate domain names submitted as “Love It,” “Like It,” “On Right Track,” or “No Thank You.” At the end of the contest, the contest holder is supposed to choose a winning entry, and the person who submitted the winning entry wins the cash award. The contest holder can then purchase the domain name if desired. If the contest holder does not choose a winner, Squadhelp chooses one on their behalf.

Be Mindful of the Advice You Read on Socials

6

There are many helpful domain investors who share tips, insights, and thoughts on social media. It’s super helpful to see what others are doing and where they are finding success. There is much more real-time information available now than there was when I started out.

Despite all of the data that is freely shared, there is no vetting and/or minimal verification of information. I would imagine most people who share are doing so with good intentions, but even the most transparent people don’t share *everything.*
