Bodis Gives Performance Update After Google Parked Domain Opt-Out

3

Bodis sent an update to customers yesterday about recent performance impacts related to pay per click parking revenue. The company attributed the decline to a major change implemented by Google, which was announced earlier this year.

Google is now automatically opting out advertising on parked domain names. The result of the change is less PPC parking revenue for customers who use parking services like Bodis and its competitors.

Here’s the announcement from Bodis:

Glad This Sale Wasn’t an LTO

Sometimes, the most obvious use for a particular domain name is in a manner that would either be offensive, controversial, or negative. This will probably be common sense for most people, but it is a good idea to keep the lease to own option off for domain names that could be used in a way that could damage its future usage.

I recently sold the a two word .com domain name that was acquired by a political campaign. The domain name was first used as a forwarder to a YouTube video, but it now hosts a landing page with that video. The title of the video matches the domain name without the extension. I would classify this as a way to cast an opponent in a poor light.

Com Laude to Acquire MarkMonitor

Com Laude has built its reputation as a leading domain name management service and registrar for large corporations. The company competes against several other companies that offer similar services in the domain name industry, including MarkMonitor, CSC, and GoDaddy’s Brandsight.

This morning, Com Laude announced the acquisition of MarkMonitor. The company was owned by Newfold Digital, which had somewhat recently acquired the brand from Clarivate in 2022.

How I Quickly Check My Afternic Landing Pages

1

Last week, I added a couple of domain names to my Afternic account. Both domain names were won in GoDaddy expiry auctions and registered at GoDaddy. One of these domain names, maddeningly, required the 3rd verification nameserver. When I finally got it listed, I noticed it was showing a different landing page than my preference, so I quickly fixed it.

It is a good idea to check on your landing pages every once in a while to ensure the correct landers are showing for each domain name. It can be a very quick process if you know what you’re doing because Afternic doesn’t make it that easy. I’ll share how I check on mine.

TonyNames Hits $100k Milestone with .io Sale

I’ve followed TonyNames on X for several years. Who is TonyNames? Honestly, I don’t really know, but he has shared more than most people in the domain investment space. Tony has consistently shared insights into his domain investing journey coupled with actionable tips and personal sales data. In short, the information Tony is sharing is helpful and inspirational.

I suspect if someone charted his sales, it would show impressive growth. Very recently, Tony shared that he sold a mid-five figure domain name. Shortly thereafter, he shared an even greater milestone – Tony sold a domain name for six figures.

Sigma.io was reportedly sold by Tony for $100,000 in a deal closed via Afternic:

When Whois Contacts Fail, I Use GoDaddy DBS

One of the things I enjoy most about domain investing is the negotiations. Most don’t work out, but I enjoy the thought and effort that goes into a negotiation. It stimulates my brain in a way most other aspects of this business do not. This goes for both buying and selling my domain names.

On occasion, I will use GoDaddy’s Domain Broker Service (DBS) to try and buy a domain name. If I am not hearing back from a domain registrant and don’t want to continue to press, I might connect with a DBS broker to attempt to get a price. In these cases, I am probably not making a substantial enough offer to elicit a reply, so the broker won’t usually be able to help.
