Results from One Month with Afternic Boost

Afternic began charging for its upgraded “Boost” features on September 4th. Instead of paying 15% commission for selling a domain name via Afternic with their nameservers enabled, sellers now pay 20% commission. Sellers could opt out of Boost if they preferred, and the commission fee would remain at 15%. They would not have some of the search and result page features discussed by Afternic if they opted out.

I have a portfolio hovering around 2,000 domain names. When Boost went into effect, I kept all of my domain names priced below $2,000 opted-in to Boost. Those 1,000+ domain names all have Afternic nameservers, and I think nearly all of them have the new “custom” landing page design. Some have make offer enabled and others are just BIN or BIN + LTO.

Video: How Anime.com was Acquired

3

I heard the Anime.com domain name had been recently acquired, but I knew nothing about it. Anime is a a style of Japanese animation, and it is popular throughout the world. Obviously, Anime.com would be a fantastic brand for creators and people who enjoy watching this genre of animation.

I came across a video interview conducted by Leon Abboud featuring Alex Xu, the founder of the company that acquired Anime.com. The interview is a bit longer than 40 minutes, and it touches on the acquisition of the Anime.com domain name. Not surprisingly, the domain name had a $10 million price tag, and it was listed for sale via GoDaddy.

Negotiating Like Double Down Video Poker

0

When I was 18, I went on a Royal Caribbean cruise with my family. It was the first time I was able to gamble in a casino. One night during dinner, I left the table to play video poker in the casino. I returned about 30 minutes later hunched over from carrying buckets full of quarters.

The video poker game had a double up feature. When I won a hand, the game gave me the option to double my winnings by choosing a card that was higher than the dealer’s. I could continue to choose to double down until I cashed out or lost. I won a big hand and successfully doubled a bunch of times until I cashed out with buckets full of quarters. Even though the win wasn’t technically a jackpot, the casino gave me a “jackpot” t-shirt because it was a substantial win.

Falcons.com is an exceptional one word .com domain name that has long been owned by Future Media Architects (FMA). Like other domain names owned by FMA, Falcons.com has been for sale via Saw.com. In a post on X this afternoon, the brokerage announced that Falcons.com was sold for $400,000:

Meta Acquires Threads.com Domain Name

In July of last year, Meta (formerly known as Facebook) launched a social networking service to compete with Twitter, now known as X. The service was branded Threads, and the company used the Threads.net domain name for its platform. Threads.com was owned by another business, which was highlighted in Fast Company following Meta’s Threads launch.

In June of this year, the app running on Threads.com was sold to Shopify. Some people speculated that this acquisition could make the Threads.com domain name available for Meta to acquire for its Threads platform. It looks like this just happened.

Most Important Elements to a BIN Landing Page for Domain Sales

7

I’ve been asked to look at numerous domain name sales landing pages lately. I will generally be happy to take a look if I have the time, but I thought I would share what I think are the most important elements to a BIN landing page for domain name sales.

1) Domain name quality
2) BIN price
3) Ability to easily transact securely
and/or 4) Ability to contact seller
