In an April of 2024 SEC filing, Cuentas reported the $303,000 acquisition and $301,000 sale of the https://t.co/IbEH9vgoJx domain name. Both transactions occurred in 2023. My guess is the name was acquired from a domain investor. 1/3https://t.co/UOMCfXSn41 pic.twitter.com/ozM5V2ATJ9

I was looking through recent SEC filings, and I learned about a six figure domain name sale that reportedly transacted last year. A company called Cuentas reported that it acquired the Roofs.com domain name for $303,000 in May of 2023. The Annual Report filing also reported the subsequent sale of the domain name for $301,000 in October of 2023:
“On May 18, 2023, the Company purchased the domain www.roofs.com in consideration of $303. On October 24, 2023 the Company entered into a sale agreement with a third party according to which, the Company sold its rights in the domain for $301.”
Notably, those amounts are “(USD in thousands).”
The company appears to have made a typographical – but important – error further down on its filing. On page 32, it mentioned Roof.com rather than Roofs.com:
“The Company’s investment activities for the year ended December 31, 2023 resulted in net cash used of $2,098,000 due to the Company’s investment in Brooksville Development Partners, LLC. in the amount of $2,065,000, investment in the amount of $20,000 in Cuentas Max LLC and investment in the amount of $303,000 in the roof.com domain which was later sold for $301,000.”
As far as I can tell, Roof.com has been – and is still – owned by Reflex Publishing, Inc.
Prior to the May sale of Roofs.com, the domain name was owned by a domain investor. The Whois record had limited information for several years, but I was able to use the DomainTools Whois History tool to see who owned the domain name the last time the Whois record was public. I was able to confirm the sale price with the seller (who wishes to remain private).
In looking at Archive.org from June of 2023, one month after the initial sale of Roofs.com, the logo appears similar to the current logo, down to the “America’s #1 Roofing Company” tagline. I am not sure what that means regarding the subsequent sale of the domain name, so I don’t know if both sales should be charted.
Once Ron Jackson confirms the sale for DNJournal and Michael Sumner adds it to NameBio, it will move up to the 18th largest publicly reported domain name sale in 2023, just above the $300,000 sale of Vegetarian.com. I have also added the sale to the list of recent one word .com domain name sales I maintain on Embrace.com.
Someone will soon develop an AI agent to look for hidden domain sales through SEC.
Roof.com owner must have been surprised by a few more visits to its parked page caused by the typo in the SEC filing.
