It gets me excited when one of my kids notices something unique about a domain name and shares that with me. I can’t imagine they’ll go on to become domain investors, but it would be great if they remain knowledgable about domain names as they get older and benefit from using them wisely. It’s fun to talk to my kids about my business.
With that in mind, I enjoyed reading Andrew Miller’s update about his son, Bret Miller, in his Random Sunday Thoughts post on X yesterday:
2. Time flies, as the cliche so accurately says. One year ago, I convinced my son Bret Miller to leave his job at Alphasights, a great company that trained him so impressively, and is filled with hundreds of young people working together in the office daily. As with anything, there are trade offs. Here we are a year later and he has developed into a superstar. Bret was instrumental in empowering the relationship that led to the acquisition of Chef .com, and as noted above, in the Two .com and Faithful .com deals. Most importantly, beyond a proud Dad moment, we are having a blast working together. 👇

Andrew has talked to me about his kids many times, and I had the chance to spend some time with Bret at the ICA Meeting in January. Based on the conversations we have had about domain names and selling domain names, I can tell Bret has the potential to excel in this business. It looks like that is coming to fruition. Bret is now listed as a Partner at ATM Holdings.
As a parent, I can imagine how rewarding it would be to work with one of my kids. There is a high level of nuance involved in domain investing and the marketing of exceptional domain names. The top tier people don’t necessarily want to share all of their secrets with colleagues because it can be very easy to branch off into a separate business and directly compete. Being able to work with someone you trust, like a child, must be a special experience.
Bret has been taking on a big role with valuable domain names, and I hope he continues to follow his dad’s path advising on major domain name deals.
