How Do You Confirm Financial Fitness?

For many of us, getting a high 6 or 7 figure deal on a domain name is exciting and helpful to our business. Unfortunately, just because a prospective buyer agrees to pay a high price for a domain name does not mean he or she will be able to follow through with that deal and fund escrow.

Let’s say you are negotiating with a prospective buyer. After negotiating for a period of time, the prospective buyer offers $800,000 for a domain name, and you’re willing to sell your domain name for that price. How do you qualify the buyer to:

1) Ensure that payment will be made promptly.
2) Not permit the prospect to try and find a buyer at a higher price.

During the course of a negotiation, I try to

PokemonGo.Net Sells for $20,950 at DropCatch.com

DropCatch.com LogoPokemon Go has been  all over  the news the last week or two. Although I have not played Pokemon Go, it seems like almost everybody else has! People have also been registering lots of Pokemon-related domain names. Last week, I wrote an article about nearly 4,000 .com and .net domain names being registered with the word Pokemon in them.

According to this tweet from NameBio, PokemonGo.net sold for $20,950 at DropCatch.com yesterday:

Sedo Brokers ADA.com for $200,000

ADA.com Sale SedoEarlier today, Sedo reported the sale of ADA.com for $200,000. The sale was reported on Sedo’s market activity page, and it was brought to my attention today by Jag Singh. I reached out to Sedo’s Dave Evanson, and he confirmed that the domain name sold, although he was not the broker.

It looks like the buyers of ADA.com were quick to act, as the website is already operational. Here’s an excerpt from the ADA.com about us page:

“Meet ada, a virtual health companion available on the go. Designed by a dedicated team of doctors and computer scientists, ada gives you the best symptom assessment available. Building up a detailed picture of your health over time, ada provides you with an accurate understanding of what is going on and helps you decide on next steps to take.”

Prior to the domain name sale, it looks like the

GoDaddy / NameFind Sells Delaware.com

In my morning DomainTools Registrant Alert email, I noticed that GoDaddy’s NameFind likely sold Delaware.com. A current Whois record  shows that the new registrant of Delaware.com is The Delaware Company House LLC. The Delaware.com domain name is not yet resolving.

Knowing that GoDaddy does not tend to report sale prices from its NameFind portfolio, my assumption is that the purchase price of Delaware.com will remain private. If I were to guess, I would say this was a 6 or potentially a 7 figure acquisition, again, assuming the domain name was sold.

Back in April,

Some Domain Names are Not Sellable

I receive quite a few emails from people asking me to buy their domain names or for some help selling their domain names. If I am not interested in buying the name(s), I will generally politely decline and may point them in the direction of marketplaces like Sedo or Afternic. Unfortunately, some domain names are simply not sellable.

You probably wouldn’t believe the quality of the vast majority of domain names that are sent to me. Many don’t make any sense to me, have hyphens in strange locations, use obscure words in non .com extensions, randomly replace letters with numbers, or they have other features that make them pretty worthless from my perspective. I feel badly when I see these emails, especially when someone sends an email with a huge list of names that are of the same quality.

Buying domain names that aren’t worth anything can be

Media Options Brokers the Sale of Paragon.com

Yesterday morning on Twitter, Jamie Zoch mentioned that Paragon.com was acquured by a company called Epic Games:

I recognized the domain name because I had previously seen it marketed by Andrew Rosener’s Media Options. I looked through my email archive, and I see that Paragon.com was listed for sale via the weekly Media Options domain sales newsletter in September of 2015. The domain name had an asking price of
