GoDaddy Hosting BuyDomains Auction

According to a large banner on the GoDaddy Auctions homepage, GoDaddy will be hosting a private auction featuring domain names owned by BuyDomains. There are 150 domain names up for auction, and the starting price for each auction is $500. It appears that many of these auctions have reserve prices, but it is unclear what the reserve ranges are for individual domain names. A wide variety of domain names are included in the auction.

This marks GoDaddy’s first venture into private “theme” auctions in over a little over a year. As you may recall, GoDaddy ran private auctions on behalf of the .Info and .Org registries in  late 2012, early 2013.

In the past, BuyDomains partnered with SnapNames to run auctions with domain names from the company’s portfolio. I am not sure if the GoDaddy acquisition

Heritage Auctions Second Domain Auction is Live

HA.com LogoAfter selling over $1.5 million worth of domain names in its inaugural domain auction held at the end of 2013, Heritage Auctions has opened up bidding for its second domain auction. HA sought domain name submissions for this domain auction in December and January.

There are just over 100 domain names listed for sale in this auction. According to Aron Meystedt, the Founder and Director of the Intellectual Property Division  of Heritage Auctions, the list of domain names was chosen with a specific goal in mind. Aron commented, “the ultimate goal is to build this division to where our client base of over 850,000 affluent buyers is excited about domain names.” As a result,  many of the domain name categories are related to departments on the HA.com website, including coins, currency, art, wine, comics, metals, and other categories with affluent buyers who bid on HA auctions.

Two of the more interesting auction lots are DEC.com and Digital.com. DEC.com was one of the first registered domain names. Both of these assets are now owned by Hewlett Packard, but they had been owned by Digital Equipment Corporation, which was acquired by Compaq, which then merged with HP in 2002.

The live auction will take place on

AnimalRescue.com Sells for $20,400 at NameJet

AnimalRescue.com was sold in a private auction on NameJet today, and the sale price was $20,400. There were 282 bids from 247 bidders in the auction. The auction was one of the FindYourDomain.com private auctions.

Interestingly, according to the September 28, 2009 – October 11, 2009 DNJournal sales report, AnimalRescue.com had previously sold on NameJet for $6,899 in April of 2009. I looked back in my NameJet bidding history, and unfortunately, I do not have that auction listed. Based on the September 26, 2009 Whois record that lists

NameJet Reports Over $800k in Sales in January

NameJet reported its January sales numbers, and the company seems to have had a strong month. Only considering sales above $2,000, the company closed $836,000 in sales. With all of the other unreported sales, NameJet likely closed well into the 7 figures.

In January of 2012, the company reported just under $275,000 in sales above $2,000, so this is a marked improvement. It seems that most of the top sales this January were privately held domain names.

There were 5 sales last month of $50,000 or greater. LIU.com was the largest sale at $155,688. The domain name is currently parked at DomainNameSales, although I don’t know if the buyer kept the domain name parked or simply hasn’t changed the DNS yet. The Whois information remains private.

Listed below are the sales reported by the company last month above $2,000:

January Great Domains Auction Results

The Great Domains auction held on Sedo ended a few days ago, and the results are reported below. My personal favorite, BTB.com, sold for just under $40,000. I like the name because of the “business to business” connotation, even though most people refer to that as B2B or something similar.

In total, the auction netted over $100,000 USD in sales. Several 3 letter .com and .net domain names sold for decent amounts, including AFQ.com, MVL.com, and ARM.net.

Here are the results of last month’s auction:

btb.com $US 38350
terminus.com $US 10099
afq.com EUR 9999
mvl.com $US 9101
snapsale.com $US 6410
