Dots.com Domain Name Sold by Hilco Streambank for $335,000

Dots was a women’s and plus size fashions and accessories company that operated on the Dots.com domain name. In January of this year, Bloomberg reported that the company had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Hilco Streambank, an advertiser on DomainInvesting.com, was responsible for the sale of the Dots.com domain name and intellectual property associated with the Dots brand.

The auction for the Dots related intellectual property was conducted and concluded last week. According to Jack Hazan, Executive Vice President at Hilco Streambank, the Dots.com domain name was sold separately to an individual investor for $335,000. The rest of the package sold to a newly formed entity called New Dots LLC for $326,000. I understand that bidding was quite active.

Tips for After a Domain Auction

Most people who are active in the domain industry spend a considerable amount of time and money bidding on domain name auctions. After I win a domain auction there are several things I do to ensure that the domain name is set up properly and possibly listed for sale under my accounts.

I want to share a few tips and steps you might want to take after winning a domain auction to make sure everything on your end is in order.

Heritage Auctions Releases Reserve Prices

I received the list of reserve prices for the upcoming Heritage Auctions domain name auction, and I shared it with you below. The auction will be online only, and the live portion will take place on April 9, 2014 at 2:30pm Central Time. Bidders may place bids online prior to the auction, and pre-bidding closes the same day at 12:30pm Central Time.  Unlike the previous auction, there will not be in-person bidding, so all bids must be placed online.

On a sidenote, Heritage Auctions ran another advertisement for this auction in the New York Times. I think this gives a little bit extra exposure, although I don’t know if the results can be quantified.

If you have any questions about the auction or domain names included in the auction, you are welcome to post them here or you may directly contact Heritage Auctions’ Aron Meystedt.

Name and Reserve Price

  • Tablets.com   $750,000.00
  • Future.com $300,000.00
  • March.com $250,000.00
  • LK.com $250,000.00
  • Spokane.com $250,000.00

BuyDomains Auction at GoDaddy Ends Today

The BuyDomains auction at GoDaddy will be ending this afternoon, and there are about 150 domain names included in the auction. After looking through the list of domain names, it seems like there are a bunch of names I previously made offers on, so I will most likely be a participant in the auction.

I thought I would share 5 of my favorite domain names. (I may bid on one or more of these domain names as well as others from the auction):

  • Afficionado.com
  • Galas.com
  • HikingGuide.com
  • Invigorating.com
  • Perfectionist.com

I believe just about all of the auctions have reserve prices, although the reserve range is not shared publicly. Judging by the pricing on some of the domain names prior to the auction, I would bet they are going to move some inventory with this sale.

The auctions end later on this afternoon.

In total, the auction closed at a little under $250,000 USD. I noticed a couple of other domain names that had decent bids, but they did not meet the auction reserve price.

Media Options Running Private Auction at NameJet

NameJet is hosting another notable domain auction on behalf of a domain investment company. Andrew Rosner’s Media Options, best known for its domain brokerage services, has listed quite a few valuable domain names up for auction at NameJet. The auctions will begin closing between two weeks and a little over a month from now.

I saw the banner on NameJet’s website, and I asked Andrew if he could share some details about the auction. According to him, about 30% of the inventory is listed at no reserve, and “all are priced VERY aggressively,  many at below what we paid” in order to induce competitive bidding.

I looked through the list of names that are currently loaded on NameJet, and it appears that some of the better inventory has
