TRAFFIC Conference to Hold No Reserve gTLD Domain Auction

Rick Schwartz sent out a TRAFFIC conference update this morning, and one of the most interesting pieces of information he shared is that there will be a no reserve gTLD domain name auction held during the conference. The domain names that are being listed for sale will be directly from the registry. It will most likely be the first public new gTLD live auction.

Here is what Rick had to say about the auctions as well as the gTLD focus at this year’s TRAFFIC conference in Las Vegas:

Dayton Daily News Appears to Acquire Dayton.com

ActiveDayton.comShortly after the conclusion of the inaugural Heritage Auctions live domain auction, I learned that Dayton.com was sold by the auction house. Although HA did not share the sale price, the auction reserve price had been set at $50,000 plus the 15% buyer’s premium.

Based on the live auction result and the revised sale amount reported by HA’s Aron Meystedt, it appears that the sale price was close to the reserve price, but that is an unconfirmed guess.

The new registrant for Dayton.com is

Heritage Auctions Seeking Submissions for March Domain Auctions

39

HA.com LogoI want to pass along a message I received from Aron Meystedt, Founder and Director of the Intellectual Property Division at Heritage Auctions. The auction house is currently “seeking more 1 and 2 word category domains, as well as generic branding names.” They are looking for domain names priced from $1,000 to $100,000 and up.

As of right now, the auction is planned for the middle of March, and the auction house will be locking up names through the month of January. Domain investors and domain brokers are invited to submit domain names to Aron for consideration. To submit a domain name for consideration, you may contact Aron via email at

Find Your Domain Auction on NameJet

NameJet and Find Your Domain distributed a press release this morning about some single word Chinese .com domain names that are coming up for auction on NameJet. Although many of the auctions have reserve prices, the auctions will likely net six figures in sales. Numeric domain names have done especially well because of the Chinese market, and it’s a market that obviously has money to spend on domain names.

In the press release, NameJet and FYD highlighted several of the Chinese domain names (like  xiao.com and liao.com), but there are several others that I think will do really well in addition to the names that were mentioned. Here are a handful of the domain names currently up for bid:

BuyDomains End of Year Auction at SnapNames

The BuyDomains end of year auction being held at Snapnames is closing on Thursday afternoon at around 3pm Eastern, and there are 108 domain names listed for sale. All of the listed domain names are owned by BuyDomains / NameMedia. I have inquired about several of the listed domain names in the past, and off the top of my head, it appears there have been price concessions made.

Listed below are the domain names that currently have bids as of publication. I bolded the names that have met the reserve price.

MutualFunds.com Sold By HA: Total Now Over $1.5 Million

I just read a press release from Heritage Auctions with an update from last month’s inaugural domain name auction. The company announced that MutualFunds.com, QR.com and Dayton.com have all been sold. Deals for these three domain names were completed after the conclusion of the live auction. The total revenue generated by the HA domain auction stands at over $1.5 million, not including the 15% buyer’s fee.

The live auction generated an unaudited sales total of $419,970, with 26 out of the 68 domains sold during the event. The leading sales were on Animation.com, XZ.com, and Hemisphere.com.
