2.XYZ + 350 Other .XYZ Domain Names on Auction

xyz-logoThe .XYZ Registry hopes to start off 2017 on a high note by auctioning 350 .XYZ domain names on Chengdu West. The domain names in this auction all have no reserve and will sell to the highest bidders. The auctions begin concluding today (January 4), and it will run through January 13. Bidders need to be registered with the China-based auction house in order to participate.

I believe the most valuable domain name in this auction is 2.XYZ. This auction ends in approximately one week from today. Several single number .XYZ domain names have previously sold, with the largest sale being 1.XYZ, which sold for $182,000 in March of 2016. Other single number sales include 9.XYZ, which sold for $176,000 in December of 2015, 6.XYZ, which sold for $125,000 in November of 2015, and 8.XYZ, which sold for $82,000 in September of 2015.

Commenting on the auction, Shayan Rostam, Global Director of Registry Operations at .XYZ, shared the following with me:

Great Domains Auction: Cave.com Sells for $61k+

Sedo’s final Great Domains auction of 2016 closed today, and the auction totaled about $175,000 in sales. There were 17 domain names that sold in this month’s auction.

The largest sale of the month was Cave.com, which sold for $61,350. T4.com sold for $44,000, and Monochrome.com sold for 31000 EUR. Rama.com was another 5 figure sale, closing at $25,499.

The full list of sold domain names is below. Quite a few names had bidding action but didn’t meet their reserve prices. Personal.com, Holding.com, Down.com, and Chest.com were examples of domain names that did not meet their reserve prices and did not sell at auction.

2869.com Auction: Above or Below Estibot?

It looks like a Network Solutions-affiliated registrar caught the 2869.com domain name after it expired and went through the deletion process. As a result, the auction is now live at NameJet and SnapNames.

As of right now, the high bid for this auction is $6,700, and there are 140 bidders participating (there may be some overlap between bidders who backordered the domain name at both venues). As I mentioned previously, Estibot values this domain name at $33,000.NameBio shows a wide range in sale prices for  4 number .com domain names. Throw in the fact that there isn’t a number “4” in this domain name, and bidding could be even higher.

I am curious if you think bidding will be higher or lower than  the Estibot valuation. Vote in the poll below:

2869.com Deletes and Will Likely Go To Auction

2869-com-domain

It looks like the valuable 2869.com domain name expired and was deleted. Depending on which drop catching service catches this domain name, it will likely go to auction sometime this afternoon.

I had a look at the pre-orders at NameJet, and there are currently 66 bids with a high bid of $6,700. Because it is a pending delete auction NameJet and Snapnames will team up and bidding can be done on either platform. DropCatch.com, Pheenix, and other drop catch auction services will also be vying for this domain name when it becomes available to snag. People interested in bidding on the domain name should backorder it at their favorite back order auction platform within the next couple of hours or so (at the time of publication).

The domain name appears to have been owned by

NameJet to Host NamesCon 2017 Live Auction

namescon-2017-auctionNameJet will once again play host to the live domain name auction that will be held during the 2017 NamesCon conference in Las Vegas. The domain auction is being organized by Monte Cahn’s consulting firm, Right of the Dot. The live auction will be held at the Tropicana hotel on January 23rd from 3PM – 6PM Pacific time. A press release  sharing information about the auction was published this morning.

Here’s an excerpt from the press release with some details about the auction that you might find interesting:

“The auctions will feature some of the best .com and new gTLD names available anywhere including a super premium bundled lot featuring BAR.COM, BAR.NET, CAFES.COM, GRILL.COM, PLACE.COM, PUB.COM SHELTER.COM, and other individual premium and super premium names such as LEADS.COM, SPORTSCARS.COM, PATTY.COM, STOP.COM, WINECLUB.COM, GOLD.CLUB, SINGLE.COM, E.HOSTING, MORTGAGE.BROKER, PPL.NET, and others. There will be an estimated 400 names in the overall auction with an estimated 125 domains being offered at the live auction on January 23rd. Many premium domains will be priced at no and low reserves to promote competitive bidding and true market prices.”

NameJet added a link to the auction in its menu, and you can have a look at the domain names that will be included in the auction. You can also start bidding or backordering domain names in the auction if you would like. I already noticed several domain names in my auction list that I had not removed from my backorder list.

If you have high value names for sale, it may not be too late to get them submitted, as detailed in the press release:

BobCostas.com Domain Name Expires

It looks like BobCostas.com has expired, and if the domain name is not renewed within the designated redemption period, the domain name will be sold to the high bidder. The domain name is currently registered at GoDaddy, and the domain name is set to be auctioned via GoDaddy Auctions as a result of it not being renewed upon expiration.

As you probably know, Bob Costas is a well known American sportscaster who announces baseball games, the Olympics,  and is involved in a myriad of other sports announcing and presenting work. Because Costas is so well-known, I think it would be difficult for someone use the domain name without legal risk (I am not a legal expert though!).

I checked a few entries on Archive.org, and it does not appear that BobCostas.com was ever developed into a website. Based on a historical Whois search at DomainTools, it looks like
