How to Tell if LTO is Paid at Squadhelp Over the Weekend

I have one ongoing Lease to Own (LTO) deal at Squadhelp. The total sale price was just shy of $5,000, and the buyer is paying over 12 months. Payments are due on the 26th of each month.

Prior to this weekend, the buyer had made 4 monthly payments, which were disbursed via PayPal the day after being received. For January, this meant the fifth payment was due to be disbursed on a Saturday. Most companies don’t have accounting staff working on the weekend, so it would take a couple of extra days to be paid. Platforms I use that offer LTO (Dan and Squadhelp) don’t notify sellers when the buyer makes a payment, so I would only receive an update once the payment is disbursed.

Should I Reintroduce Daily Polls?

Several years ago, nearly every day, I posted a poll on my blog which often led to good discussions. The polls were typically about something related to domain investing or something specific related to domain names.

When I was at the ICA event, someone I hadn’t seen in a while mentioned that they missed this feature and that I should bring it back. On one hand, it’s a somewhat easy way to generate content and start a discussion, but on the other hand, it can be a bit tedious to think of something interesting enough that is worthy of discussion.

So, I’ll post a poll on Twitter to ask you if I should bring it back. I would probably post the polls on Twitter and embed, although a WordPress polling tool might be a better option. I will investigate further if there’s interest.

Know When to Reprice Your Assets

James Booth shared that he sold BoomBox.ai for $59,995:

That sale is impressive in and of itself. I did a bit of searching via DomainTools, and I found something that took me aback. A screenshot of the previous BoomBox.ai landing page from July of 2023 – just 6 months ago – shows this domain name was previously listed for sale on Squadhelp for $9,995! That means James grossed an extra $50k because he repriced it as interest in .AI domain names grew.

GoDaddy DTVS Should Override Fast Transfer

I keep my portfolio of domain names at GoDaddy, and I have DTVS security enabled on my account. Domain Sherpa wrote about DTVS, but in short, when I push a domain name to another GoDaddy account or someone starts a transfer of my domain name to another domain registrar, I have to approve the change via phone call.

With Afternic’s Fast Transfer service enabled, GoDaddy’s DTVS is overridden. When someone buys a Fast Transfer-authorized domain name through the Afternic network, the domain name is automatically pushed or transferred without the DTVS phone call since the Fast Transfer was previously authorized by the seller.

In light of the ongoing issue with the Fast Transfer authorization emails, I think GoDaddy should allow customers with DTVS to have that override Fast Transfer approval.

My Portfolio by Acquisition Date

One question I am asked quite a bit is about how long it takes me to sell my domain names. This isn’t something I really track, so I usually respond by saying that it can be a week or 10 years – it can be a crapshoot and come down to how motivated I am to sell a particular domain name.

For those who are curious about how long I’ve held names in my portfolio, I did a quick analysis of my inventory this morning to give an idea. Interestingly perhaps, all of the domain names I owned in 2007 and prior aren’t domain names I would sell. For instance, I bought TopNotchDomains.com in 2006 and that isn’t for sale because I am using it for my corporate website.
