I was chatting with an acquaintance on Tuesday, and out of the blue he told me a brief story. In short, he said he thought about me the other day when he mistyped a web address and landed on some sort of spammy/scammy landing page. I explained that isn’t the type of business I operate, but for all intents and purposes, it didn’t matter. He landed on what was likely a PPC monetized typo domain name and his first thought was of my business.
Afternic Should Improve LTO Communication

Automated Lease To Own (LTO) deals at scale are a nice innovation for selling domain names. I like the passive income produced by my LTO sales, and if a buyer defaults on a deal, I get the domain name returned to me. Dan.com introduced automated LTO deals at a scale, and Afternic began offering LTO deals to buyers in the second half of 2023.
At the end of November, I closed my first LTO deal via Afternic. The domain name is being acquired for $4,999 on a 12 month payment plan. The buyer paid on November 27th, and the first payout was sent to me on November 29th. Because Afternic utilizes the Dan.com payment schedule, the second payment was scheduled to be made to me on January 7th. I assume the buyer was obligated to pay on the one month anniversary – December 27th.
Video: Efty to Launch Efty Pay
Efty has become known as a platform that enables customers to utilize customize domain name landing pages to sell domain names and track their leads. Efty customers would then choose a third party payment and transaction platform – like Escrow.com or Dan.com – to close their deals.
This afternoon, Efty announced Efty Pay, a “frictionless domain name transfer engine” that will enable customers to transact within the Efty ecosystem. The benefit to customers is the ability to transact directly within Efty’s platform at an equal or lower commission rate to third parties. The company is expecting to launch this offering soon, but a firm date hasn’t been announced yet.
DropCatch Maintenance: Auctions to be Extended
DropCatch.com will be undergoing some maintenance later on today. As a result, auctions that were expected to conclude today during this time period will end on Tuesday instead. The note on the top of the website provides the update:
“DropCatch will be undergoing routine maintenance on Monday, January 8th between 2:00PM and 6:00PM Mountain Time. The site will be unavailable during this time. Auctions scheduled to end on Monday will be extended until Tuesday, January 9th.”
I Wish DropCatch Lengthened 2FA Login Cookie
Overall, I like bidding on pending delete auctions at DropCatch.com. I can pay for a domain name instantly after the auction concludes, and within moments, the domain name is provisioned to my NameBright account. The platform is generally user-friendly, and I like bidding there. There is one issue though.
Every time I login to my DropCatch account, it prompts me for a 2FA code. This would be okay if it was once in a while or even once per day. However, this isn’t the case. If I backorder a domain name, step away from my computer for a little while, I am almost always prompted for a 2FA login after returning to place subsequent bids. With my auction routine, I could be prompted for 2FA logins several times in a morning. I don’t mind 2FA, but I would prefer to be prompted once a day, at most.
I find this persistent 2FA login requirement to be a nuisance.
