Some Sunday Morning Thoughts and Updates

0

People often ask me what my schedule is like. Even though I take many breaks throughout the day, I feel like I am always working. There are always emails to answer, information to research, and website management responsibilities. It is great to work independently, but it’s not as fun as it might seem.

Below are some domain name industry thoughts and updates. I invite (and encourage) you to share any of your own business updates.

There is no easy way to make money in the domain business. Making money often involves taking large (but calculated) investment risks. There aren’t any shortcuts to earning a living in the domain space. I get information from many different sources, both inside and outside of the domain business and both private and public.

Last week, I

Valentine’s Day Thoughts and Updates

It’s not only Valentine’s Day today, but we also celebrated Oliver’s first birthday with friends and family this morning. Next up for the day is Disney on Ice in Boston. Hope you have a nice Valentine’s Day on this holiday weekend (here in the US).

Here are some thoughts and updates. I welcome you to share yours in the comment section:

Thanks to everyone who has donated to my 2016 Pan-Mass Challenge fundraiser! I am raising $10,000+ this year for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and I sincerely appreciate the support of readers and friends.

Amazon announced Lumberyard, a new “video game engine,” but they did not seem to acquire the matching Lumberyard.com domain name. Lumberyard.com is owned by Anything.com, and I would imagine their pricing is very high. I noticed that Amazon is buying other Lumberyard domain names (like Lumberyard.Club, Lumberyard.xyz, Lumberyard.top, and others). I wonder if the price has gone up since the news was announced, especially if traffic (and revenue) jumped on Lumberyard.com as a result of the news.

During the last couple of weeks, I have not really been

Super Bowl Sunday Thoughts and Updates

It’s Super Bowl Sunday, and unfortunately, my team (New England Patriots) aren’t playing. The good news is this means I can drink during the game. It’s not that I can’t drink when they play, but I prefer to not drink when they’re playing. Today will be a Focal Banger and Heady Topper day for me! If you’ve had either of these beers, I am sure you know that means it will be a good day regardless of the outcome of the game.

Here are some thoughts and updates for you today:

Will Taco Bell advertise using their Ta.co domain name? That could be some nice exposure for the .CO Registry. My bet is that this will be the only non-.com, although I wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple of .org domain names.

Mid Winter Sunday Thoughts and Updates

Here’s a great example of how I know I am getting old. When I saw that my town was going to miss the brunt of the major snowstorm that hit the east coast, I was thrilled. When I was younger, I loved the snow. I still like the snow but I hate dealing with it. Last Winter was brutal, and I am very happy the storm stayed south! Hopefully those who bore the brunt of the storm came out unscathed.

Below are some thoughts and updates. You are welcome to share your own thoughts and updates if you’d like.

The Lian.com auction on DropCatch.com is pretty huge. The high bid is over $200k. It’s probably going to be one of the most expensive drop auctions of the year.

Have you tried the new

Sunday Post-NamesCon Thoughts and Updates

0

I don’t know about you, but it took me a couple of days to recover from NamesCon. I held a ton of meetings and had the chance to meet friends and colleagues from around the world. Despite my best efforts to connect with as many people as I could, I exchanged emails with a couple of people I hoped to meet but did not end up seeing. There’s always next year!

Here are some thoughts and updates for you, some of which you may have already seen.

Sunday Observations and Updates

NamesCon is finally here! I arrived late last night on a flight with the GoDaddy crew, and I am ready to begin a few days of meetings and get togethers. I am looking forward to meeting with colleagues, closing some deals, and learning some things that will help my business.

Here are some observations and tips. As always, you are welcome to share your own thoughts and updates if you would like.
