Mid Winter Sunday Thoughts and Updates

Here’s a great example of how I know I am getting old. When I saw that my town was going to miss the brunt of the major snowstorm that hit the east coast, I was thrilled. When I was younger, I loved the snow. I still like the snow but I hate dealing with it. Last Winter was brutal, and I am very happy the storm stayed south! Hopefully those who bore the brunt of the storm came out unscathed.

Below are some thoughts and updates. You are welcome to share your own thoughts and updates if you’d like.

The Lian.com auction on DropCatch.com is pretty huge. The high bid is over $200k. It’s probably going to be one of the most expensive drop auctions of the year.

Have you tried the new GoDaddy Auctions app yet? I use the app to bid on auctions even when I am in my office. The only thing I hate to think about are all the auctions I may have missed over the years because I didn’t want to go through the effort of using the desktop interface.

Speaking of GoDaddy Auctions, for the last several weeks, I’ve been using Dropping.com (affiliate link) every day to find auctions of interest at GoDaddy. I pay just under $50/month for the “Basic” subscription, and I figure if it helps me find one domain name a month, it’s worth the price. I am sure there are other tools that do similar things, but it was easy to set my preferences and it’s been helpful so far.

Reviewing the list of dropping domain names every day is almost like a history lesson. I can see the names of a certain event (usually something tragic) dropping, and it reminds me of the event.

It looks like Raft.com is in escrow at Sedo right now. I couldn’t find a sale price though. That must have been a pretty expensive domain name.

I am looking to sell N.Ventures and/or N.Holdings. For the renewals last year, I think I paid just under $100 for N.Holdings and just under $150 for N.Ventures. If you’re interested in either or both, let me know.

  1. Paying $50/mth to find domains is way too much.

Everyone is chasing the same domain name and that what causes the price to go up and not surprisingly, it is the same old group of fishermen.

  2. I have been using the Godaddy investor app, very nice tool. Surprised to see no mention of Broncos/Pats in your Sunday post… Go Broncos 🙂
