Final 2018 Great Domains Auction Results

Sedo’s final Great Domains auction of 2018 concluded yesterday, and there were quite a few domain names that sold. I am not sure why, but Pain.com was not listed in their sale report. TheDomains.com reported that the name sold for $399,999, but this sale was not included in the report I received.

I reached out to a Sedo representative about the non-disclosure of Pain.com and here’s what I was told:

“Sedo is not disclosing proactively the sale of Pain.com. While we are aware that any auction is always happening publicly, Sedo has an agreement in place with the parties involved in this particular auction not to share any information about the sale proactively. As such, this is why we aren’t commenting on the specifics of this individual case.”

Beyond this, GGN.com was the largest reported sale, closing at

1-800-Flowers Buys Plants.com for $450,000

A Whois record update shows that 1-800-Flowers just acquired the Plants.com domain name. Dave Evanson (Senior Broker at Sedo) had been brokering the domain name this Summer. According to a tweet from Dave this morning, Plants.com was sold via Sedo, and the purchase price was $450,000:

Prior to the sale, Plants.com appears to have been owned and used by a company called Stokes Tropicals. From what I can see, this company had its web presence on StokesTropicals.Plants.com. At the time of publication, Plants.com

Calculator.com Sells for $250,899 via Sedo Auction

I was following the Sedo auction for Calculator.com when I got distracted just before the auction concluded and did not see it end. It looks like the domain name ended up selling for $250,899, as recorded by NameBio and reported by Sedo this morning on Twitter:

Calculator.com is a fantastic domain name with many uses. In my opinion, the most lucrative way to use Calculator.com, would be something related to the financial field rather than math or science. There seem to be a whole lot of

Dave Evanson Brokers Sale of Kush.com for $500,000

Sedo broker Dave Evanson announced that he successfully brokered the sale of the Kush.com domain name for $500,000. Dave announced the sale this afternoon via Twitter:

According to Wikipedia, “Kush is a strain of Cannabis indica.” Kush is a popular term in the marijuana trade, and I think the sale price reflects that popularity.

I don’t always know what the asking price of a domain name was before it sells, but in this case I do: $3 million. An article in Merry Jane published in October of 2017 discussed the value of Kush.com. It appears that Dave reached out to the publication (or someone associated with the publication) and offered the domain name for sale. When he was asked the price, Dave reportedly responded,

User Engage Acquires User.com and Rebrands as User

Earlier this morning, I reported the $150,000 sale of User.com, a domain name that was brokered by Dave Evanson at Sedo. It is now clear who acquired User.com and why.

User Engage, “a full-stack marketing automation platform that helps businesses from around the world grow faster,” bought User.com and rebranded itself as User. The company tweeted the news about rebranding a few hours ago:

I looked at CrunchBase this afternoon to learn a bit more about User, and I saw

User.com Sold for $150,000 via Sedo (Update)

When I was looking at my DomainTools Domain Monitor daily email on Saturday, I noticed that User.com was unlocked and pending transfer to another registrar. Yesterday morning, I saw that the domain name transferred to another domain registrant.

The most recent screenshot record at Screenshots.com shows that the domain name had been listed for sale with Sedo’s Dave Evanson as the broker. I reached out to Dave via email, and he confirmed that he brokered the sale of User.com. The domain name was acquired for $150,000. He was not able to share any other details about the deal, so the buyer is presently unknown (see update below).

When I visited User.com yesterday morning, I saw
