Sedo Weekly Sales Report: $1.3 Million in Domain Names Sold Last Week

1

I know that others have posted Sedo’s sales report already, but for consistency, I try to have all the sales reports posted. I wasn’t around to post it last night, so better later than not never.

Like Afternic yesterday, Sedo is off to a strong start of the year, recording $1.3 million in domain sales. Although it is listed in this report, the sale of Dudu.com  was closed in December of 2011 and isn’t recorded in the $1.3 million total. 35% of this week’s sales were from buy it now listings, and this number continues to stay steady.

Afternic Weekly Sales: Did a Former NBA Player Make the Largest Domain Sale?

Afternic has started the year on a strong note, recording $1,152,248 in domain names sales during the first week of 2012. MCommerce.com was the leading public sale at $50,000 and BigBags.com sold for $11,050. DEMA.com sold for $10,000.

Fun fact: it looks like MCommerce.com may have been sold by former NBA basketball player Mark Madsen based on the historical Whois info. The same Whois info appears to be listed for MarkMadsen.com  as well.

Afternic’s public sales above $1k:

mcommerce.com $50,000.00

Domaining.com Special Sale

0

Francois Carrillo from Domaining.com has organized a special sale today, with the proceeds from the sales commission going to domain bloggers. This is a very nice gesture, although I am declining the offer, as I would rather him send the money to some of the other guys who do this as more of a hobby.

If you are interested in purchasing any of the domain names below,  visit the associated sale page and click the “Buy It” button or respond to Francois’ newsletter with a SOLD (info “at” domaining.com).

Domains over $10,000:

Domains between $5,000 and $10,000:

Domains between $1,000 and $5,000:

Domains under $1,000:

Note that DomainAsset.com is a combo, the seller will give you the singular and plural.
And dudu.co is a package of 10 catchy .co domains: bobo.co, dudu.co, fafa.co, fofo.co, nene.co, rere.co, sisi.co, tete.co, vava.co, veve.co.

Sedo Brokers Dudu.com for $1 Million

DuduThe first publicly reported seven figure sale of the year was just announced by Sedo. The company successfully brokered Dudu.com to a  to a Dudu Communications, which operates a multilingual social network company called Dudu. The company currently uses  GoDudu.com for its website, so this is a much needed upgrade.

The acquiring company is based in Dubai, and it appears the former owner of Dudu.com appears to be based in China, according to previous  Whois records.

One of the most interesting aspects of the sale was that Dudu.com had not been on the market before it was acquired. Sedo’s domain acquisition team had to reach out on behalf of the buyer to make a deal happen. Fortunately for Dudu, the language difference was not a problem. According to Liesbeth Mack-de Boer, chief sales officer of Sedo, “Our team speaks 27 different languages, so we have the rare ability to handle any kind of negotiation around the globe. With our cultural competency and language abilities, Sedo stands out as being one of the most qualified, proficient and truly international domain marketplace leaders.”

Congratulations to the team at Sedo for earning this million dollar sale. It’s certainly a nice way to start the year.

It’s an illustration of how important the exact match domain name is for a brand. Recently, Square.com began forwarding to SquareUp.com, although it is unknown if the domain name was acquired by the company.

Robin Wauters at TechCrunch appears to be the first to cover the news  this morning.

Afternic Closes $1,276,373 in Sales

Sedo Ends the Year Strong: $930k in Sales

Sedo ended 2011 on a strong note, recording just over $930,000 in domain sales during the final week of the year. There were 498 total sales completed at Sedo. The highest publicly recorded sale was VitaminCenter.com, a domain name previously owned by Marchex, which closed at $35,000.

One of the most interesting numbers Sedo now reports is the percentage of sales that came from a buy it now listing. Surprisingly (to me), one third of all sales closed last week were from BIN listings. Sure gives me something to consider, since I am pretty much anti-BIN listings.

vitamincenter.com 35000 USD
ooda.com 25000 USD
zooz.com 15000 USD
terracloud.com 15000 USD
