MutualFunds.com Has $800k Bid in HA Auction

The auction for the MutualFunds.com domain name has received several bids and is up to $800,000 in pre-bidding.     I am told the reserve price has not yet been met (but it’s “close”). Including the 15% buyer’s premium, the current auction price is $920,000.  I think  MutualFunds.com is the best domain name in the auction, and getting it was a good score for HA.   The highest online bid will be carried over to the Heritage Auctions live auction, which will be held on November 21, 2013.

MutualFunds.com is owned by Internet entrepreneur and NYT bestselling author Marc Ostrofsky, who also sold Business.com for what was then a record price of $7.5 million. His portfolio of domain names also includes

How To Sell a Domain Name

I am often asked “how do you sell a domain name?” or “can you sell my domain name?” and I want to share some advice on how to sell a domain name. If you own a domain name or a portfolio of domain names and you would like to sell them, there are several ways to sell a domain name. Of course, this list doesn’t include selling a domain name when someone inquires about buying a domain name because all that is required of that is a negotiation.

Listed below are 5 ways to sell a domain name and some advice about each method. I personally recommend using an escrow service (Escrow.com for example) when selling a domain name, even if a domain broker is involved.

Find Your Domain Selling Great Names at NameJet

Find Your Domain (FYD) is once again selling some excellent inventory on NameJet, according to a press release the auction house distributed this morning. There are some very solid keyword domain names, in addition to three letter .com domain names that will be auctioned with “low or no reserve.” There are around 400 domain names coming up for auction.

In June of 2011 and after that, FindYourDomain.com listed another small portfolio of domain names up for sale on NameJet. The company previously sold NYE.com for $175,000, Aerospace.com for $160,200, HouseRentals.com for $135,800 and Copy.com for $101,300. Suffice to say, FYD has had considerable success using NameJet as an auction venue.

Opening Bids Now Listed for Heritage Auctions Domain Auction

HA.com LogoLast week, I reported that the inventory for the Heritage Auctions domain auction had been posted, although the opening bid prices and reserve prices were not yet listed. This afternoon, HA revealed the opening bid amounts, and I  listed the full inventory and starting prices below. The live auction is scheduled for November 21, 2013.

The actual auction reserve prices will be posted on November 14, and according to Aron Meystedt of Heritage Auctions, for now, we should “assume that most reserve prices are right around double the opening bid.”  One thing you’ll find unique for domain auctions but standard in the auction business is that winning bidders will pay a buyer’s premium rather than the domain sellers. The buyer’s premium amounts to 15% of a sale price. As an example, a $10,000 auction will have an actual price of $11,500.

DL.com Auction Price Lowered: Opening Bid in at $165,000

If you’re interested in bidding on the DL.com domain name, currently at auction via Hilco Streambank, I received an update about it that I want to share. The opening bid price has been lowered from $200,000 to $165,000, and the domain name now has one bid. There is no reserve price on this auction, so it will sell to the highest bidder upon closing on October 31.

Because of the former owner of the domain name, Hilco has received some non-domain industry  press about the auction, and perhaps that is what attracted the bid. My guess would be that it is a

Heritage Auctions Domain Name Auction Inventory Posted

HA.com LogoEarlier this year, it was announced that Aron Meystedt was hired by Heritage Auctions (HA / HA.com) to head up its new Domain Name & IP Division. Heritage Auctions is one of the largest auction houses in the world, and the fact that HA is focusing on domain name auctions is a pretty big deal.

The inventory for the first HA.com domain name auction has been posted, and some of the names I like best are listed below. According to Aron, this is the final list, and it was capped at 68 because the company will be “working like crazy to direct market” to prospective buyers. The live auction will be held November 21, 2013, and bidding will open on November 1.
