Sedo CMO Christian Voss Announces Departure

3

This morning on LinkedIn, Sedo’s Chief Marketing Officer Christian Voss announced he is leaving the company. Christian began his tenure at the company as Head of Sales and CMO back in 2013. He has been a mainstay at domain industry conferences and events. Along with some of the company’s standout brokers, Christian has been the face of Sedo to many domain investors.

Christian’s post announcing his departure is below:

Falcons Acquires Falcons.com via Saw.com

Falcons.com is an exceptional one word .com domain name that has long been owned by Future Media Architects (FMA). Like other domain names owned by FMA, Falcons.com has been for sale via Saw.com. In a post on X this afternoon, the brokerage announced that Falcons.com was sold for $400,000:

Meta Acquires Threads.com Domain Name

In July of last year, Meta (formerly known as Facebook) launched a social networking service to compete with Twitter, now known as X. The service was branded Threads, and the company used the Threads.net domain name for its platform. Threads.com was owned by another business, which was highlighted in Fast Company following Meta’s Threads launch.

In June of this year, the app running on Threads.com was sold to Shopify. Some people speculated that this acquisition could make the Threads.com domain name available for Meta to acquire for its Threads platform. It looks like this just happened.

Uniregistry Market NS Resolving to Default Afternic Lander

I was doing some acquisition research the other day when I came across a domain name that has the Afternic landing page stating “This domain is registered, but may still be available.” A Whois search showed me the domain name uses UNIREGISTRYMARKET.LINK nameservers and not the Afternic nameservers I expected to see given the landing page.

In looking at DomainTools, I can see that nearly 50,000 domain names still utilize the old Uniregistry nameservers that don’t appear to function as originally intended. Uniregistry Market was shut down by GoDaddy in 2023 following its acquisition of Uniregistry and Name Administration.

Afternic: Who Does Domain Broker Represent?

This comic posted on X today is something domain investors should think about when working with a domain broker. Who does the broker represent? Ultimately, it boils down to whether or not the domain name is already listed for sale via Afternic or not.

Mark Chavez posted a reply to the comic with a comment related to Afternic brokers. I think the way Afternic and DBS brokers work on behalf of buyers and sellers is a bit unclear, so I thought I would share my understanding of how Afternic and DBS brokering works.

Most Important Elements to a BIN Landing Page for Domain Sales

I’ve been asked to look at numerous domain name sales landing pages lately. I will generally be happy to take a look if I have the time, but I thought I would share what I think are the most important elements to a BIN landing page for domain name sales.

1) Domain name quality
2) BIN price
3) Ability to easily transact securely
and/or 4) Ability to contact seller
