Within the last year, there has been a massive increase in venture funding for AI-related startups and businesses, and many are choosing to use .AI domain names for their ventures. This has buoyed the market, leading to increasing asking prices and sales.

Twitter Layoffs Led to Spill.com Acquisition

Throughout the past couple of years, there have been numerous tech companies that laid off staff. Discussion about these tech layoffs amongst domain investors centered around the idea that these laid off employees would start new businesses and acquire domain names via the aftermarket to jumpstart their business.

CNN shared a video interview with Alphonzo Terrell, a former Twitter employee who was laid off from the company in 2022. Terrell then co-founded a new social media platform called Spill. As you can see from this LinkedIn post, the platform started off with a less than ideal domain name – Spill-App.com.

GoDaddy Auctions Minimum Bid Increases to $25

For as long as I can recall, the minimum and opening bid for domain names in expiry auction at GoDaddy Auctions has been $12 + the renewal fee. The minimum bid amount has changed to $25 for domain names entering into auction at GoDaddy Auctions. The change was announced in a blog post on GoDaddy’s website on October 26.

RedFig.com UDRP is a Nice Win for Investor

A UDRP was filed against the RedFig.com domain name at the National Arbitration Forum (NAF). The complainant in the UDRP is a company called Redfig LLC, and the respondent is a domain investor who was represented by attorney John Berryhill. The decision was published this morning, and the registrant prevailed and will retain the domain name.

In its argument, the complainant tried to convince the panel the domain name was being used in bad faith because it was listed for sale for more than the registration cost of a domain name:

“Respondent registered and uses the domain name in bad faith. The Domain Name is listed for sale on a third-party site for a sum which is well in excess of the cost of purchasing a domain name from a registrar.”

That didn’t fly with the panel.
