For Domain Brokerage, Size Does Matter

This is a guest Post by Dave Evanson, Senior Domain Broker at Sedo.  I asked Dave to write about the differences between working with a large domain name brokerage and an independent domain broker. Previously, Andrew Rosener wrote an article about the benefits of working with an independent domain broker.

There are certainly some capable independent brokers in this business, and I commend them for their ability to deliver for both domain buyers and sellers. However, even though there are situations where an independent broker’s services may be preferred to those of a large brokerage firm, there are some crucial benefits to working with a large firm. Having been an independent broker myself, I joined Sedo knowing that the vast resources the company has at its disposal would enable me to get better results for clients. At the end of the day, working with Sedo, I have better tools and more time than I would working independently, and so I get higher prices for sellers and great deals for buyers.

First and foremost, Sedo has the largest and most comprehensive

March Great Domains Auction Ending Soon

Sedo’s Great Domains auction for March is ending in about an hour and a half. There are 121 domain names up for auction this month, including a number of short domain names like OAL.com, MHJ.com, and VOF.com. At the moment, well over half of the domain names have bids, although many don’t seem to have met reserve yet.

Here are the 5 domain names I like best in the auction, with the reserve price range taken into consideration:

“Milk Smashing” is Popular and MilkSmashing.com is Cheap

29

I was reading the Boston Globe today, and I read an article discussing a new trend called “milk smashing” (also known as gallon smashing). Apparently, it involves people going into a grocery store, smashing a gallon of milk on the floor and jumping in the milk while someone films the entire thing to post online.

I don’t really get why this has become the cool thing to do, but who am I to judge. I did see that SmashingMilk.com is currently listed for sale on Sedo for the bargain basement price of $249. I don’t buy trendy domain names, so it’s not a name I’d want to buy, but if this really is a big thing, someone could probably make money on that investment.

This “milk smashing” trend seems to be happening all over the country. There are articles in publications in Denver, Buffalo, Philadelphia, and I am sure it’s happening elsewhere.

As with every trend, this one likely (hopefully) won’t last too long, so it’s a limited opportunity. Sort of like Tebowing and Planking.

The domain name was registered just this month by someone in California and it’s listed for sale on Sedo. I neither have any financial stake in a sale nor was I asked to promote this listing.

Sedo’s Kathy Nielsen Featured on Blog Talk Radio Discussing gTLDs

I want to share an interview about gTLD domain names that was recently posted on the Small Business Digest radio show on Blog Talk Radio, “the world’s largest social radio network.” The hour-long interview features a discussion with Kathy Nielsen, Director of Strategic Alliances (and Business Development for gTLDs) at Sedo. In the interview, Nielsen discussed the launch of gTLD domain names and how small to medium sized businesses can buy relevant domain names.

Sedo’s Creative Tactic to Sell Chocolate.com

6

People often ask what domain brokers and brokerages do to help sell domain names to end users. I wanted to share this tweet and Vine video that shows one step Sedo took to get the word out about their exclusive sales listing for the Chocolate.com domain name.

According to the tweet embedded above, Sedo sent a chocolate business card to Christina Warren, Senior Tech Analyst at Mashable to advertise that the domain name is now for sale. As of this posting, I haven’t found an article on Mashable announcing this opportunity, but perhaps something will be posted later. Mashable’s sizable reach could help sell this domain name.

It’s nice to see a company step out of the box when it comes to spreading the word about a domain name that is now on the market.
