Register.com “Stuffing” .Site Domain Names

Rick Schwartz shared the content of an email he received from Register.com, in which he was given a .Site domain name. A Whois search reveals Rick owns LastLaughs.com, which is registered at Register.com. The email to Rick offered him LastLaughs.Site, under the guise of Register.com’s “Brand Protection Program.”

Frank Schilling Comments on His Upcoming gTLD Auctions

Uni Naming & Registry (UNR) is a domain name registry operator and backend services provider founded by Frank Schilling. The company was split off from other domain industry assets when GoDaddy acquired Uniregistry and Name Administration from Frank in early 2020. UNR has continued to operate a mix of its own domain name extensions and extensions owned by other companies.

Late yesterday, I noticed a recently launched website on Auction.Link announcing a major no-reserve auction for domain name extensions that are owned and operated by UNR. The company published a press release (below) with more details about the auction. In total, the company is selling 23 domain name endings, including:

According to DomainIQ, Amazon owns nearly 40,000 domain names. Within its portfolio are many thousands of new gTLD domain name registrations, which I notice in my DomainTools daily Registrant Alert email.

No matter what I do or where I go, I am always paying attention to domain names. When I notice an interesting domain name or domain extension in my “real world,” it always stands out to me.

This morning, I came across a tweet from The Jimmy Fund that promote its JimmyFund.Gives domain name. This marketing tool is being used in coordination with Dana Farber’s fundraising efforts during Childhood Cancer Awareness month:
