At What Price Will Bitcoins.com Sell? (Poll)

Yesterday afternoon, I reported that Heritage Auctions will be selling the Bitcoins.com domain name on behalf of Mark Karples, founder of Mt. Gox bitcoin exchange. The auction will take place on July 24th, and it can be found on HA.com. The official reserve price will be revealed by HA on July 17th, but Aron Meystedt of Heritage Auctions informed me that “the reserve is between $500K and $1MM.”

I am curious about the price at which you think this domain name will sell. There have been some solid Bitcoin and cryptocurrency-related domain name sales in the last year, and some might say that Bitcoins.com is the best domain name for a company involved in the Bitcoin space.

I posted this poll below to get your take on the sale price for the Bitcoins.com domain name:

HilcoDomains.com Auction Platform Set to Launch

Hilco DomainsHilco Streambank is launching an auction platform on HilcoDomains.com  that will be used exclusively for the domain name assets the company represents. The company will focus on holding high value premium domain auctions, and it plans to hold them on a regular basis. I am told the company does not expect to have non-premium domain names on auction unless they are directly related to the premium domain names.

Although Hilco Streambank’s domain auction group is primarily known for auctioning domain names that are involved in bankruptcy proceedings, the company is expanding its reach. Going forward, auctions on HilcoDomains.com may not involve distressed domain name assets. As such, the bidding rules for each auction may be different depending on the needs and requirements of the individual sellers.

The first domain names that will be up for auction on HilcoDomains.com include LOA.com, Essentials.com and Essential.com. These auctions will open for bids at the end of the month. Here’s how to

Bitcoins.com Up for Auction at Heritage Auctions

Heritage Auctions is gearing up for its third domain name auction, and the company announced the inventory for it this afternoon. In my opinion, the company will be selling its highest value domain name to date: Bitcoins.com.  The auction will be held online on July 24, 2014.

According to the press release  (which I included below the list of domain names for sale), “The URL Bitcoins.com will hit the auction block on July 24, 2014, as Part of Heritage Auctions’ Domain Names & Intellectual Property Auction, sold by Mark Karpeles, the controversial founder of the failed Bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox, and is expected to bring more than $750,000.”

In May of this year, the Wall St. Journal reported that the sale of Bitcoins.com was possible. At that time, I speculated that the auction of Bitcoins.com and related trademarks could fetch 7 figures, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the domain name alone sells for 7 figures at auction. I have been told that the Heritage Auctions domain auction is for Bitcoins.com without any trademarks.

Some of the other exceptional domain names at auction include OklahomaCity.com, SEM.com, Cute.com, and Rides.com. Reserve prices for the auctions will be revealed one week prior to the auction.  Bidders may place bids online prior to the July 24th auction.

Sedo to Run Numeric Domain Auction

With numeric domain names continuing to sell for high prices, Sedo announced that it will be running a “premium numeric domain auction” in September. I assume this means they will be looking for very short numeric domain names (NN, NNN, and NNNN) in popular extensions. Hopefully the lead time will give them a chance to reach out to their buyers and other known buyers to help facilitate deals.

If you are interested in submitting a domain name for the auction, listed below are the important dates to remember:

Apples.com on Auction at NameJet

The Apples.com domain name is up for auction at NameJet, and with just over one day remaining in the auction, bidding is at $28,100. As I recall, Apples.com was up for auction previously, but it didn’t meet its reserve price and failed to sell.

Despite the fact that the technology company called Apple is known throughout the world, I would imagine there are safe ways to use this domain name. Obviously, apples are one of the most popular fruits in the world, and someone could use Apples.com for their orchard or for an apple shipping company. Have a look at Oranges.com to see how a descriptive domain name like this can be used despite the fact that there is a well known brand using the singular version.

How much do you think Apples.com will sell for at auction? Vote in the poll below. As a disclaimer, I may bid on this auction.

Last Call on Submissions for the Heritage Auctions’ July Event

I received an email from Aron Meystedt, Founder and Director of the Intellectual Property Division at Heritage Auctions, and I want to share it with you. Heritage Auctions is seeking domain names for a July auction, and they are in the final stages of accepting domain name submissions.

The auction will have around 75 domain names up for sale, and HA promises more marketing and public relations efforts to help drive sales. The request for domain name submissions that I received is posted below. If you have domain names for sale that fit the requirements and you are intersted in discussing their inclusion in the July auction, be in touch with Aron.
